About Me:I'm a 16-year-old British-American from Woodside, CA. Right now at least, I am especially interested in political theory, American politics and the modern-day intersection of institutionalized religion and the state. I hope to study political science at university, with the hope of one day being a politician myself. Or maybe an academic. Or a researcher. Or a lawyer. I'll see.

Beliefs:I think the best way to describe my belief system is progressive and liberal. I believe in moderate Democrats, as I think these politicians are the most pragmatically progressive here in the United States. I believe, generally, that the state in its optimal condition reinforces the liberty of its citizens; I reject both extremes of the big vs. small government debate. I also subscribe to the point of view that the state has an obligation to not only better its own citizens, but improve the world outside its borders if it has the resources to do so. I am a fervent atheist, and I think that religion generally inhibits logical understanding of nature and the world we live in; however, I recognize that for many people, religion is a means of displaying generosity and building community. It must be acknowledged, though, that belief in a deity is dangerous once one decides to place absolute faith in its existence, as this is blatantly antiscientific and irrational.

Quotes:"A man's ethical behavior should be based effectually on sympathy, education, and social ties; no religious basis is necessary. Man would indeed be in a poor way if he had to be restrained by fear of punishment and hope of reward after death." - Albert Einstein

"In the little world in which children have their existence, whosoever brings them up, there is nothing so finely perceived and so finely felt as injustice." - Charles Dickens

"Knowledge is power. Information is liberating. Education is the premise of progress, in every society, in every family." - Kofi Annan

"The question was put to him what country he was from, and he replied, 'I am a citizen of the world'." - Diogenes (404-423 BC)

Most major news networks are racist toward white people.

There are no rules for this debate after round 1. Round 1 is for acceptance only. I (pro) will be arguing that most of mainstream media is racist toward whites because it pushes a certain political and leftist agenda. My opponent (con) will argue that there is no leftist agenda against whites and are not racist toward them....

Did tobacco positively influence the southern colonies?

When John Rolfe came to Jamestown in 1610 he brought tobacco to the suffering colony. Tobacco became the first cash crop in America. A cash crop is a crop produced to earn money rather than to use yourself. The demand for tobacco was growing back in England and the colonists were running low on supplies because they had to pay them to the British. They were able to make a deal to trade tobacco equally for some other supplies that helped to boost the American Economy. These are a few examples on...

Are all lives important?

I don't think so. I think we've had 'all life is precious' showed down our throats for so long that we think we can reproduce without any consequence. We can't. Our resources are not unlimited. Of course we need to reproduce but as I am writing this there are more people brought into this world than people dying which does not result in a happy ending. Not every life is important....
