7/31/2013 3:59:34 PM Posted: 7 years ago What if, like in the Opinions section, you added a word requirement for RFDs. Each RFD has to be x number of words long (30? 50?). This would require voters to at least give a more in depth cursory vote and would prevent one line RFDs and the continual back and forth of "it's not long enough" or "you need to elaborate".
I know this won't eliminate bad RFDs but it would at least incentivize giving longer explanations per vote. No one normal accomplished anything meaningful in this world. |

I kinda like the idea. However, I think it would slow down voting and it would just makes noobs have to repeat their terrible RFD's with different words to reach the character limit. Nolite Timere |

7/31/2013 4:41:25 PM Posted: 7 years ago The character max in the opinions always annoys me though. Normally I exceed the char limit anyway in RFD's, but I don't think it is necessary.

7/31/2013 5:38:49 PM Posted: 7 years ago It could however do with a higher maximum characters, as well as a small bit of formatting (such as line breaks)

It's annoying, especially in stupid opinions like "Should all buffalos be run over by a tractor" where you don't need a long RFD. Not many people want to write an essay to justify their vote. The more that's written, the more opportunity for one of the debaters to find something in it they want to argue. I don't mind arguing my RFD reasoning on hey-it's-debate-site grounds, but many people will view it as a homework assignment and avoid the hassle by not voting. |
