How important are religious convictions? Religious values can be very important pillars in people"s lives but sometimes those values can be discriminatory and even hurtful toward people. At what point does this cross a line? How do you balance being accepting or others and true to your a faith? I am in no way trying to in silt anyone"s religious convictions just want to see some discussion.

It depends on how rigidly we are conditioned in our formative years. That is to say religion is a learned trait and not an inherent trait.
An atheist such as myself would say that religion has no importance whatsoever. In fact it could be said that religion is a social and evolutionary hindrance, Whereas open mindedness is a social and evolutionary necessity.
Nonetheless as long as religion doesn't completely stymie open mindedness things will inevitably continue to move forwards.
Of course it could rightly be argued that moving forwards to rapidly might be detrimental to the evolutionary process and therefore a counterbalance to open mindedness might in fact be just as necessary.
