What many people don't (want to) realise is; that is right.

What right do you, or anybody have to make the presumption that for some highfaluting reason, religion is somehow exempt from the same laws which govern everything that is, we are and do?

If they are apples and oranges then why are there so many religious claims that have be demonstred as incorrect by science. Religious make claims about the nature of the world. As such it is not an orange. It is a stunted apple.

Here's a list of biblical claims that were later proven wrong using science:

1. The rainbow was only created after the Flood.
2. Bats are grouped with feathered birds.
3. Insects walk on four legs.
4. Snakes can talk.
5. The mustard seed is the smallest in nature.
6. Pi = 3.
7. There is a solid firmament (the sky) separating the waters above from the waters below.
8. The Moon is a light.
9. Stars can fall down to Earth.
10. Light existed before the Sun.

Apples and oranges?

I think science is about objective facts and religion is about emotions, spirituality, and the human experience. Where religion makes claims about objective facts, it is obviously often wrong. But I don't think that negates their very different purposes and very different roles. It is not for religion to disprove scientific claims. It is for science to disprove scientific claims.

I don't buy the distinction. Behind every religion is some set of factual assertions about reality. Such factual assertions often put religious doctrine squarely at odds with science.

That's fair. I just tried to think of a religion that makes no factual claims, and I admit I'm struggling.

But what do you mean by not buying the distinction between religion and science? That is, in what way exactly do you consider them to not be distinct?
