Some religious organizations use shunning as a way of correcting "sins"; a congregation or group would decide that an individual has sinned to a point that they need to be shunned, and would then command all adherents to avoid or limit contact with the individual. Shunning can be applied for theological disagreements, apostasy, or receiving medical care.

While one may argue that shunning should be allowed on the basis of religious freedom, I'm here to argue the opposite.

I argue that shunning shouldn't be protected as freedom because, on principle, one only has the freedom to do what doesn't harm others. If a person is from a family that all follow one religion and is shunned, he or she could receive tremendous psychological harm from such a "loving" procedure. In addition, shunning always restricts religious freedoms; if your friends, family and employer are of a religion that shuns apostates, you would be practically unable to change your faith because of your inability to cope with the consequences.

Due to the harms of shunning on religious freedoms and health, it ought to be banned or severely restricted.

Shunning as practised by e.g. the Botchtower dogs, is their flagrant exercise in hypocrisy!

"Stop judging+ that you may not be judged; 2 for with the judgment you are judging, you will be judged,+ and with the measure that you are measuring out, they will measure out to you.+ 3 Why, then, do you look at the straw in your brother"s eye but do not notice the rafter in your own eye?+ 4 Or how can you say to your brother, "Allow me to remove the straw from your eye," when look! a rafter is in your own eye? 5 Hypocrite! First remove the rafter from your own eye, and then you will see clearly how to remove the straw from your brother"s eye. (Matt. 7:1-5) NW pretend translation!

The Botchtower were given these supposed ' holy pearls ' and what does their own propaganda say they do with them?

6 "Do not give what is holy to dogs nor throw your pearls before swine,+ so that they may never trample them under their feet and turn around and rip you open.

They deny their own supposed God and also deny their own propaganda!
