About Me:Student of International Relations at the University of Brasilia, I'm interested in subjects relating to world politics, history and languages.
Activities:Studying, debating, reading interesting but useless stuff on the Internet.
Beliefs:As a social democrat, I understand the economic arguments from both the right and the left wings, but I believe that the core principles of democracy are both liberty and equality and that they are not mutually exclusive. Liberty is more than just freedom from oppression of capitalism, and should also be interpreted as individual and political rights. Equality is more that simply equality of rights under the law, and should also concern principles of economic equality. In matters of social politics, however, I'm fairly progressive, and I consider social conservatism most of the time as a form of tyranny that has little place in the modern world. I consider myself a cosmopolitan, I'm fascinated by other cultures. I consider racism and xenophobia as some of the most despicable ideas in the world. I'm not a very religious person, I believe in a higher force - call it God, nature, the Tao or the Force, it doesn't matter - however I'm not a big fan of organized religion and dogmas
Books:I'm a little obsessed with the work of J. R. R. Tolkien, and I'm amazed at how he was able to create an entire universe with such an extremely detailed structure and history. My favorite book is definitely the Silmarillion.
Music:I have a very eclectic music taste, ranging from Classic to Rock. I also like World music and the classic songs from the 60s, 70s and 80s.
Quotes:All human beings are born free and equal in dignity and rights. They are endowed with reason and conscience and should act towards one another in a spirit of brotherhood." - Universal Declaration of Human Rights, Article 1
"Liberte, egalite, fraternite" - Revolutionary motto
"I'd rather be this walking metamorphosis than having that old formed opinion about everything." - Raul Seixas
Sports Teams:I'm not a fan of sports, but sometimes I like watching basketball games from my hometown team, Franca - probably the only place in Brazil where basketball is more popular than football (soccer for Americans). As a Brazilian, I love seeing my national football/soccer team, even though I don't like regular club matches. I love the World Cup, though, but not for the same reasons as most people: I like it mostly for seeing all the different countries playing, specially the small ones no one hear about. For the same reason I also love the Olympics, and its very exciting to me that my country is hosting the next editions of both this great events.

Guantanamo prisoners coming to Uruguay.

I'm proposing this debate as an open quest for opinions because this for me as a Brazilian citizen is something really intriguing with potential tragic consequences. One might take, especially my fellow countrymen, a point against this question besides that of the Guant"namo prison close down. Some would say I'm just a pathetic neurotic person who believes cheap conspiracy theories. Well, that is not the case. If any of you guys would take the time to make some serious research about how Brazili...

Freedom of speech should be practiced in all instances without exception

Use your first for acceptance. I'm arguing that right to practice freedom of speech takes precedence over including but not limited to racist and sexist comments made in public. Regular rules. You know them....

Argentina benefits more from its alliance with the US, than a hypothetical one with Brazil

Welcome Friends of DDO! I'll be challenging political science student, Joepbr, all the way from Brazil. The topic we will be arguing, is that Argentina's MNNA alliance with the US, is more beneficial then a hypothetical alliance with Brazil. My opponent will argue that Argentina would do much better allied with Brazil. The context of the debate, allows Argentina to only be allied with one of the two. RFD's can have a one comment extension. Round structure is as follows....(1) Acceptance(2) Openin...
