The US Constitution should be read and interpreted as a living document

BennyW

The United States Constitution was written in such a way as to be a flexible an ever-changing document so that future generations can interpret the intent of the writer's broad and yet dynamic framework for the country. The founders of the country, specifically those who wrote the Constitution, were nothing more than human. They were great men of their time, but they could not see in to the future. They knew that social and technological changes in the future were inevitable and made sure to...

Obama SUPPORTS the socialist idea to "spread the wealth around"

jonpistone2
jawsh

Just to be clear, the reason I selected 'PRO' for this topic, is only because I agree that Obama supports some socialist ideals...specifically the idea of spreading around the wealth. I do NOT agree with his idea to spread around this wealth. I have talked with many people in the forum who have gone so far as to argue against Obama having an idea of spreading the wealth around and I find that to be shocking because, to me, it is an absolute fact. I do welcome anyone who cares to argue that Obama...

Changing the term from Penalty to Taxes makes the 'fee' a non-issue.

In a recent debate on Obama Care, I made a comment asking, "why it is that the government has the right to dictate people must buy from private companies or pay a penalty just to remain as a good standing citizen in this country." A side comment was made in reply to this by davidwayne saying, "The only problem with this part of the legislation is the use of the word "penalty". Change "penalty" to "tax" and it becomes a non issue. The government certainly has the right to tax people who don't...

The Obama Care bill should NOT have been passed

jonpistone2
JBlake

I would like to say a few words here before starting my opening argument. I respectfully request that only an American Citizen please join this debate on the 'con' side. I have nothing against view points from other countries on health care, but with a bill where American tax dollars are being used, I find it to be a more honest debate between two citizens directly effected. If I could have, I would have voted No to this bill and look forward to debating with someone who would have voted yes. (...

The American government should take an active role in stopping climate change

abard124

Of all contemporary political issues, there is one clear issue that stands out from all of the rest. It stands out because, unlike all other issues, it affects every single person in the world, and every single person who ever will live on this planet. Climate change is a huge problem which could potentially kill us if we don't do something to stop it [1]. Scientists are certain that climate change, at least very significantly, caused by humans [2]. As I always say when I debate religion, you ca...

I thank my opponent for providing this opportunity to debate. I look forward to interesting arguments! I'll be arguing that patriotism can lead to many negative things in society. Patriotism: devoted love, support, and defense of one's country; national loyalty. http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/patriotism Negative: lacking in constructiveness, helpfulness, optimism, cooperativeness, or the like. http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/negative Now to my opponent... I look forwar...

Kobe Bryant is better than LeBron James.

jonpistone2
lastrequest691

Since Michael Jordan left the game of basketball, the league has tried to fill his place with the 'next Jordan'. The two most likely candidates to date have been Kobe Bryant and LeBron James. The debate is altered as seasons pass and more stats are accumulated, though this debate will take place in the April 2010, not the future. To date, I propose that Kobe Bryant is the player next in line to take Jordan's crown until someone else supersedes him. While LeBron may have better rankings in...
