  • Civil rights = civilian rights. Civilians have the right to bear arms

Not sure what else there is to say about this, but civilians have the right to bear arms. The Federalist Papers made it clear that every man between 18 and 35 years of age is part of the militia, whether he signed up or not. That means men have a civil right to own and carry firearms, of all kinds anywhere we wish.

  • It is a right

People should not need guns to protect themselves and many say that to protect against guns that we need a gun but if we take away the other persons gun then there is no need to defend yourself with a gun and nobody gets hurt and our society continues to build.

  • Without the second amendment, we don't have the others

We are endowed the right to bear arms to protect ourselves from an oppressive government. If we weren't armed, we would be herded into whatever box they wanted us to be in. Also it is the fact that American citizens are armed that keep governments like China from taking us over. There army could overpower our army, but the fact that we have as many guns in citizen hands make them back off.

  • Gun rights are protected under the bill of rights, which is a compilation of American civil rights.

The bill of rights (and all constitutional amendments thereafter) are a compilation of American civil rights. Because the 2nd amendment protects the right of the people to keep and bear arms, gun ownership is technically a civil right that any law-abiding American citizen is allowed to lawfully exercise. This is one of the reasons a gun ban will never be successful.

  • Repeal Launtenberg Amendment

Until you commit a felony, you have all your civil rights intact which includes voting and owning a gun. A direct violation of ones civil rights is the Lautenberg Amendment and it needs to be repealed because it is the only misdemeanor that can remove ones civil right for life.

  • Guns equals guns

No no no it is not anyone's civil right to own a gun, it may state in the american constitution you have the right to bear arms not you have the right to an AK47 or any gun. This is were it all goes wrong Oh they have a gun so I need one to protect myself, if the second amendment wasn't taking out of context guns would not be legal for anyone. If your not in a defense force then you do not have the right to have a gun, one you havent been trained to use it and two your to stupid to own one because more then likely you will leave it around for your 8th year old to find it and play cops and robbers with, but hey what would I know I live in a country were guns are seen as a last resort not an accessory.

  • Firearm ownership is a privilege

I don't think it is a right for everyone to own firearms at all. The ownership is a privilege and if you can't be a responsible American then you don't deserve the right to give all gun owners a bad name by abusing this privilege. Firearms are weapons and when you posess one it is a huge responcability and a huge power that one holds. If a person can not have knowlage of this then they are unfit to be a firearm owner.

  • Civil rights vs. Civil liberities

Owning firearms is not a civil right. It is a civil liberty. Civil rights ensure freedom from inequality based on biological characteristics such as; race, gender, and disability. Civil liberties are individual freedoms bestowed upon masses by policy. Like, free speech, freedom of religion, bearing arms, fair and speedy trial, ect.
A good example for this context would be MLK, and the actual civil rights movement. These people were being beat and killed because of the color of their skin. That's not something theu can compromise on. They can't say, "let me be a little less black, just a little, and maybe they will stop whopping my ass so much." Gun lovers have an inability to compromise. They feel personally attacked, and I understand. They love their toys and hobby, and that's all fine and dandy. At some point though, we have to set aside irrational thoughts and come to a comprimise. The bullshit comparisons to being systematically persecuted like the Jews is just absolutely absurd! Civil rights and civil liberties are not interchangeable terms.
