Irregardless of your disposition over Ronald Regan's Presidency, one thing he seemed to understand is that Peace through strength facilitates a global position not to be questioned or tampered with. Now with these new DOD budget cuts on the chopping block top military advisers, generals and strategist are cautioning our leadership to step lightly. The Army had already been preparing to shrink to 490,000 active-duty members from a wartime peak of 570,000. Hagel is proposing to cut it further to between 440,000 and 450,000. Hagel responded weakly: He defended the proposed reductions in troop strength, as a trade-off for building up "technological superiority" and priorities like Special Operations Forces and "cyber resources." That is a bunch of Bull stool if i ever heard of any lie coming out of Washington. Everyone in the military knows that Man power is actually cheaper to have than the Research and development and technology sector beefed up. I think there is a way to have both personally. In my opinion this administration has wanted to do this for along time and are choosing a really lousy time with all the International murky policies the administration has displayed in last several years. Think back to when Obama went to Cairo in that famous apology tour back in ’09 where he apologized for our "overreaction" to the events of 9/11, he is fixing it in a way, in a fact where it will be almost impossible for future presidents to deal with that kind of situation. For the first time, a majority of Americans think President Barack Obama is not respected among world leaders, according to a new poll that found opinion has plunged “dramatically” in the past year.
Fifty-three percent now say Obama is not respected on the international stage, up from 43 percent a year ago, the Gallup poll on Monday shows. And the number who say they believe the president is respected has dropped to 41 percent from 51 percent over the same time, the poll found
The pollster attributes the decline to the spate of difficult international issues the president has dealt with over the past year, including tensions with Russia and Israel, the situation in Syria and the tapping of phones calls of foreign armed forces coalition and it's leaders.
Final Though, this is a wildly stupid and premature cut that in my opinion and forecast will lead to a second home front terror attack that eclipses 9/11.
Anyone who doesn't see this as a threat to our national security is completely absurd in their premises in my opinion. Some good common sense could help our politicians at the least. Who knows? Maybe our politicians might gain some common sense some day. By the way, this is partly to do with the sequester, but know that it was the democrats who picked to cut finances from our DoD. I must say, that makes so much sense as the DoD has already had their finances cut back enough. It's sad in my opinion.
While the US Army is being cut, the US still has not only one of the largest military forces in the world but also the powerful deterrent of nuclear weapons. A more in depth comparison between the US and Russia shows that the US already has twice as many active military members, 5 times the number of aircraft, 10 times the number of aircraft carriers and 5 times the destroyers. Thus the US will still be the supreme military might in the world. Even if this reduction in the Army bumped the US down to number 2, no country in their right mind would ever attack the US. The sheer logistics of invading the US is unimaginable, a country with 88 guns per 100 persons with a geographical area of 10 million kilometers, impossible to invade through sea due to being spotted long before they could reach and invading through land would not be feasible either since they'd have to go through Mexico or Canada. The only true threat to the US in the world is the massive amount of foreign held debt we currently hold. The reduction of the Army would actually help us be more secure since we would have less of a deficit and thus less debt being held by foreign countries.
