Arranged marriage: Does arranged marriage inhibit individuals' freedom and independence?

  • Yes it does.

There is nothing good about arranged marriage. There are young girls who are to be married to some strange man. They must do everything he asks and work for him. If they can get jobs or find their own spouse then these should not be allowed. There should be consequences for these marriges.

  • It's a cultural thing.

In America, where so many decisions are left to an individual, it is easy to say that arranged marriages inhibit individual's freedom and independence but that is simply not true. People have different definitions for freedom and independence, even within the states. Arranged marriages are not all bad. The success rate is a higher percentage than those marriages where the individuals pick the spouse for themselves.
