    While it is legal to express opinions in public from a practical standpoint if it is controversial and your identity is known you can be harassed, Lose your job or become an enemy in your neighborhood. Also from a practical standpoint public expression can get you legally attacked from those wealthy enough to bankrupt you even if the litigation is spurious and unfounded.
