Did Darth Vader give more good than bad to the galaxy?

Asked by: HungryTGUY
  • Darth Vader Was Good

He is more good than bad because it was Palpatina who turned him and lied to him saying turning to the dark side could save his wife. Besides, saved Luke and killed Palpatine, so in my opinion he didn'd do that many bad things and even without his help I think Palpatine would still have won, the only difference is there would be none there to stop him. So I really think he is good, and much more of a victim than anything else, and he paid for his bad acts anyway ( dying to kill Palpatine and loosing his arms and legs in his battle with Obi-Wan. He was also very good as a kid and as a Padawan saving many people on the way.

  • Darth Vader's Legacy

Darth Vader did a lot of bad things, and he was a bad guy. The most important legacy any person can leave to the universe, however, is his or her own children. Darth Vader left Luke Skywalker, his son, as his legacy. Luke did far more good than Vader did evil.

  • Without him the sith would have been worse.

Sure he killed babies and yes he did blow up a planet or two, but without him there Palpatine would have been much worse, yes he is a villain but he still had at least a fragment of what the jedi instilled in him besides if he hadn't killed Palpatine things would have been much worse and lasted much longer. Indulge me a for moment, Vader kills Luke Palpatine uses the force to shield the death star and stop its destruction Vader and Palpatine destroy Endor and that is the end of the rebellion, death stars are mass produced 1-2 per system which ends the last hope of stopping them. And that by far makes up for killing babies and planets

  • He joined the dark side for love

Although his relationship with padme was extremely possessive towards the end, there is no doubt whatsoever that the two were so very deeply in love. The main reason that he even joined the dark side in the first place was because he believed it was the only way to save her life. Palpatine knew this, and he manipulated him into joining the sith by playing directly on his fear of losing padme. Once padme was dead, he knew that it was too late for him to turn back-he had already killed dozens of people, including children. The dark side was the only place for him to turn.

  • He redeemed himself in the end.

His whole life he was trying to do the right thing. The only reason he joined the dark side in the first place was to save his wife. (Or anyone else he could keep from dying). Every evil deed he does he feels bad about, and always looks back saying "I shouldn't have done that" or "that wasn't the Jedi way". He was a victim of palpatine, and in the end, saved his son from going to the dark side/ saved his sons life, killing palpatine.

  • He killed Palpatine

Well although he did some bad things in his life time he killed Palpatine and saved his son he was just pushed in the wrong direction because of Palpatine like all of his apprentices before Darth Vader. He still was good in the beginning of his jedi training. People would just do anything to save their love ones like vader tried.

  • From his POV he is the good guy.

He thought the Jedi were acting against the Senate. Keeping him and Padame apart, and seeking power. Once it was clear who the bad guy was he worked within the Empire, killing off Imperials for "incompetence" and destabilising it. Perhaps the Rebellion was allowed to happen because of this. He fought against the mind control he was under and finally found the strength to stop Palpatine.

Killed less people in the movies than Vader... Lucas originally conceived of a much more balanced character, until Ben was created. Both are representative of his fathers role in his childhood.

  • Darth Vader Screws people badly and makes them bad

He is evil evil evil evil evil evil evil evil evil evil evil evil evil evil evil evil evil evil evil evil evil evil evil evil evil evil evil evil evil evil evil evil evil evil evil evil evil evil evil evil evil evil evil evil evil evil evil evil evil evil evil evil evil evil evil evil evil evil evil evil evil evil evil evil evil evil evil evil evil evil evil evil evil evil evil evil evil evil evil evil evil evil evil evil evil evil evil evil evil evil evil evil evil evil evil evil

  • A tale of misunderstanding and love.

Anakin always wanted to maximise his potential and be more than just another Jedi.. He was inquisitive and wise, the Jedi themselves believed from the beginning he would go on to be the most powerful of all the Jedi (Even more powerful than Yoda). It wasn't however because of this that he eventually went on to become Darth Vader. Instead he was always on the receiving end of a misinterpretation in words and deceit. It always felt as if the Jedi were untrusting and trying to limit his potential. And yes he was foolish and rash which led to this escalating. Darth Sidious put ideas in his head, and it didn't help that after that the Jedi refused to make him a "Master" on the council. Or that Yoda had previously explained to him to let go of his attachment to those that he loves because that leads to pain and fear of loss.
Now tell me how can you simply expect someone to stop loving or caring for someone else. At this point he already feels that without the love of his life he can not go on. This all just seems wrong to me.. He would have gone on to become a great Jedi Master but he was made to feel he would never be allowed to reach his full potential because the council were fearful of what he could become or thought that he couldn't be trusted. It's all a case of misunderstanding, Sidious accepted him. Although for his own plans. He was also told he had killed his own wife in his rage.. After everything why would he ever consider going back to the Jedi. His wife is gone and at this point he genuinely believes he is a horrible human being.. When he finds out Lukes his son he wants nothing more than for Luke to join him. Together they can overthrow Sidious, even in the prequel trilogy he mentioned of him and Padame overthrowing Sidious and making the world their own. Yes ok taken that was dark as FUCK, all he wanted was for the galaxy to be at peace and live his life with his wife. He thought he was doing that the whole time. Darth Vader was still the same man. Someone who experienceced a LOT of pain, he's mother died in his arms and he lost the love of his life. But in the end he wanted nothing more than to have his son at his side and ultimately sacrificed himself for him. He always hand good intentions and it's really sad he never found out the truth yo how Padame died. VADER FOR THE WIN!

  • He was just a broken man, one of many Palpatine's victims

He got himself in to the situation he was in because he was, well...Young and rush and then he didn't see any way out. And why should he search for a way out at all? There was no motivation to do so...Everything he loved he destroyed by his own hand thanks to Palpatine's machinations. He was just a broken man with no real power. He might have had dignity, but emperor had all the power. Vader was doing what he was ordered to do. No more than a tool.

  • He killed the republic

The republic wouldn't have even fallen to palpatine if Vader let Mace Windu to kill Palpatine. So although the prophecy was fulfilled, the republic and the alien rights were destroyed by this mistake/evil. So there wouldn't be evil in the first place, if Vader didn't kill Mace Windu. So therefore, he is evil and gave more evil to the galaxy.

  • He could have stopped it all...

Anakin could have let Windu kill Palpatine. Even if Palpatine killed Windu, Anakin could have finished him off. He allowed the genocide of so many peoples. He stood by and let Tarkin destroy Alderaan. He cut off his son's arms. He almost completely destroyed the Jedi. All he did was save his son. That's seriously the only good thing I can recall him doing post Revenge of the Sith, besides allowing Luke to escape in the Empire Strikes Back. Death to the tyrant.

  • Anakin did good, not Darth Vader

Darth Vader is the evil persona of Anakin who was thought to have died in the clone wars. His dark side as it were. When Anakin turned his back on the Jedi he became Darth Vader. The good man who was Anakin was thought to have been destroyed forever - though that didn't happen.

When Luke saw the glimmer of hope and good deep within his father he brought it upon his father to remember who he was as a person. The good side of him won out and his father died unmasked as Anakin Skywalker once more. Luke had saved him and Obi Wan was wrong after all. The good man who was his father was not destroyed. He was very much alive but buried deep within the twisted evil of the man. Anakin Skywalker got a Jedi's funeral and become one with the force. He was the hero of the clone wars and the saviour of the galaxy by destroying the Sith. Darth Vader is the enforcer of evil in the galaxy.

They are two different people by title.

  • He was a lapdog, who took orders from a totalitarian Emperor of a police state

Darth Vader took buttholedom to new levels. I don't care if he was a handicapable success story of overcoming challenges. He was a jerk. He even helped blow up Alderaan, which was a dickish thing to even think about. Lightsabering all those little kid Jedis was another sack of dicks.
