Do you agree that being a stay home parent is a career?

  • It defiantly is.

Some people will say that stay at home parent's are lazy which is usually not the case. A stay at home parent involves taking care of the Children and the house. Basically being a stay at home parent is just like being a paid housekeeper except your not having someone else take care of your house your taking care of the house yourself. Being a stay at home parent is looked down upon more sadly in this day and age.

  • Doesn't meet the definition of career

It isn't something you get payed to do by an employer, so is disqualified outright. It also isn't something you can 'advance' in, nor is it a lifetime employment.

It isn't that stay at home parents are lazy, really, it is that this is an apples and oranges comparison. It is like being a payed housekeeper or nanny, save for the fact that you don't get payed, and you have direct, legal obligation/ responsibility for your kids.

I would agree that some people look down on it, quite wrongly, but I think trying to equate it to careers/ employment doesn't help the matter. It makes it seem like people are trying to make it more than it is. There is a reason why there is no job selection of 'stay at home parent'. You are unemployed.
