I think guns should be much more regulated than they are, children or not. But yes, we have to be extra careful when there are kids around. They do not know any better, and a gun looks like a toy to them. If someone has a gun and there are children in the household, they have to be extremely careful, and always store their gun in a safe place, even if it's only for a few minutes.
Guns should not be banned from families who have children. 25% of the people that were surveyed have said yes they should be banned due to the killing accidents by toddlers because of a loaded firearm. Although it may be true that people are injured and killed it clearly was an accident caused by people that are irresponsible. 1 out of every 3 Americans have a gun or firearm in their possession. Some may say that it is dangerous and people are too irresponsible and that's true but more than half the United States of America own guns and weapon weather it be for sports or collecting or even protection. People may say that people have more in numbers to protect themselves and that is true but just 3 years ago according to the website more than 12,000 people were killed in a home invasion and more. More than 50% of the U.S citizens hunt for sport. Therefore guns should not be banned may it be for protection or sport.
It is very difficult to come up with a fair and sensible answer to gun laws. I do think that if someone has a child in the home, they should be required to have their guns in appropriately protected storage, so that toddlers are unable to access the guns in the first place.
The bottom line is gun owners need to be more responsible. We all know guns and kids don't match. Kids are curious, so to squelch that curiosity keep the gun in a lockbox and teach your kids that if they see a gun they should stay away from it. Keep in mind that even though you may responsibly secure your gun they could be at someone else's home who is not as conscientious. They need to be told to run away from it.
Under no circumstances should guns or any weapon be banned from people that have children. While tragic examples of toddlers killing people exist, that is at issue for the gun owner and parent, not the government. The government does not need to babysit every single wrong that occurs in society.
