• There should be more than one

Communication is important. We need to understand and be understood by one another for many reasons. Since there are so many languages and countries in the world it would make sense to have 2 or 3 official languages and to have the population taught these languages so Americans can communicate and develop a greater understanding of more people around the world. Now, when it comes to which languages should be made official, that brings us into a different debate.

  • We almost spoke German

The United States when it was trying to determine what the dominant language would be took a vote during a congressional convention of the 13 colonies. The vote was close, very close, and if two people had swung another direction the United States would be speaking German right now and not English. IT should have an official language but not demand that everyone abandon their own ethnic identity to conform. This is a tricky and slippery slope.

  • English Should Be the Official Language of the United States

The United States was founded with English as its predominant language. Throughout the country's history, its residents have maintained that language as the unofficial language of the country. As the nation's immigrant population expands and more languages are being spoken with regularity and commonality, it is now time to make English the official language of the United States. This will reinforce the country's origins and solidify the country's history.

  • Land of the free

An adoption of an official language would go against everything America is about, and it is our fault as white, English speaking Americans, that we have not even bothered to attempt to strengthen our education in different languages despite the many cultures from around the world who congregate here and learn English.

  • No Official Language For USA

The USA should definitely not have an official language. Although many people here speak English as their native language, it can be noted that Spanish is becoming increasingly popular. There may even be a time when Spanish overcomes English as the most popular language here. Having an official language would not help anything. In fact, the current system works well. Most important documents are listed in the several most popular languages of the country.
