  • Did You Know You Needed It?

Yes, advertising creates artificial needs! How many of us has seen an infomercial and just had to have the item and then used it about once after they got it? How many closets and drawers are filled with things we didn't know we needed until we saw it advertised? Advertising does what it's paid to do. A good advertisement sells you on an item by convincing you you need it. It creates the need for the item.

  • Gotta Have It All

Does everyone really need the newest car, the latest fashion and the most up-to-to date computer? Of course not. Advertising creates a need that wasn't there before someone saw the ad. A new smartphone, looking sleek and pretty on the big television screen, is considered a "must have" by cell phone aficionadoes. Yet the current model is probably good enough. In today's consumer-based society, commercials must create a need otherwise nothing sells and companies go out of business.

  • Yes, advertising creates artificial needs.

Yes, advertising creates artificial needs for a lot of people. People will see an advertisement or a commercial and want to purchase that product. The problem is that before these people see the advertisement they had no desire to go out and purchase that product or item. Watching advertisements can easily persuade people to go buy things that they really don't need.

  • Yes advertising creates artificial needs

How often do you see the media pushing the new "latest and greatest" technology to hit the market, making us think we need to have that when there's nothing wrong with the old stuff we already are using? It happens all the time, be it about 3D television, new IPADs or smartphones, this advertising creates a need that really wouldn't exist if not for them pushing it on people. Fast food does the same thing, they promote their products to make us feel hungry and want their food even if we aren't. So yes absolutely advertising creates artificial needs, it is meant to make us want stuff we otherwise wouldn't so we'll spend our money on it.

  • The repetition of advertising on television, Internet and newspapers illustrates the capacity of companies to create a need in the consumer’s mind.

Marketing not only influences perception, it creates needs for customers. Thanks to the promotion activities, marketers have created new sales techniques, such as the door-to-door salesman. According to Ehrenberg and Goodhardt (1980), advertising permits to design the need of consumer, and also changes attitudes. Ehrenberg explains the influence of advertising in the purchasing decision process, in fact…

“advertising is in an odd position. Its extreme protagonists claim it has extraordinary powers and its severest critics believe them. Advertising is often effective. But it is not as powerful as is sometimes thought, nor is there any evidence that it actually works by any strong form of persuasion or manipulation.”

  • If it didn't... It wouldn't exist!

I believe advertising does create an artificial 'need' for something - if there is a product that genuinely is needed/useful (such as Google) there is actually very little need for that product to be advertised, as people will spend money on it and use it anyway - the largest advert budgets are for products that we genuinely don't 'need' - such as Coke, McDonalds, new cars, new phones etc.

It's vital that Mercedes pretend we 'need' this years car compared to last years that we already drive because otherwise they wouldn't sell any!

  • Yes it does.

According to Maslow, once a lower need is satisfied, a new need is created. If you have plenty of air, you think about water. If you have plenty of water, you think about food. If you have plenty of food, you think about shelter and warmth. Most people in the civilized world have all of these, which creates artificial needs like achievement.

When something is advertised, it is made to look like it is the best thing since sliced bread. Just watch an Apple commercial. This will create a "hole" in your mind that provides a new need for you.

  • Yes it does

Now-a-days advertisements are being shown not only on T.V but also on radio and on the internet. Many companies try to sell their products by showing false things and showing discounts etc. This only creates unwanted demands. It is just a wastage of money. The products are not as good as they are shown on T.V. People should not waste money on things that they do not need. They should know the value of money.

  • Yes it does.

Ads make people buy things that they wouldn't normally. This is seem frequently with food. Often people come home from the grocery store with many things that they didn't intend to purchase. Ads have a way of seeping into our heads and making us feel like we really have to have something.

  • Needs are created by consumer

This is the rule of marketing , first the demand is created among consumer , then the producer analyzes it , the product is then created and sold back to the customer , the need or demand is always created within the customer , and talking about advertisements , if the producer will not advertise it then the sales will get zero and if such things starts then the whole world economy will get disturbed terribly . One cannot blame the advertisements for investing money in a product . It's the customers choice .

  • Advertising does not create artificial needs, although it does exploit consumers' needs.

Creates? No. Exploits? Yep. People will always have that desire for more. It's like we get bored and can't just be satisfied with what we have. The desire or need for something else is already there, advertisers simply understand that and expose their audience to products that will fill that need.

  • Its new and hot

People only want things because they are "new" take apple for example. Does anyone really talk about new versions and software updates? They just talk about their new item that they flash around. Little do they see the technology that is advancing. We will always have that desire to be modern in technology.

  • It does not create artificial need

Advertisement makes us aware about the product. Helps the seller by giving a competition that will make their product better. And the needs are created by the consumer, The advertisement fulfils, It does not create it. Without advertisement there will be no competition, No expectation, And no one will be able to fulfil their dreams
