Why does he need to?

God is technically a noun that means someone that you worship. But God doesn't have to exist. If you do good things for the sake of doing good things, then why would you need a god to tell you to do good things? Plus, there isn't evidence a god exists anyway.

If you intend to do good things for the sake of doing good things, that still leaves the question, what things are good? You only have to look around this site to see that there is a lot of disagreement on that matter - and being told what an omniscient being thinks is probably going to help a lot when it comes to figuring out what things are good.

In other words- you are not smart enough or empathetic enough to be good for the sake of society and your fellow human beings, so you need a daddy figure to think for you. That's not just sad, it's pretty much sociopathy.

In other other words you think that we are all equally as empathetic and kind and that any and every person has common decency. History dictates otherwise wise and it's because people abandoned their principles that for the most part are given from God.

Nonsense. Morality existed long before your Bronze Age Canaanite sky deity was dreamt up in the desert. Morality is societal and evolutionary- and can be seen even in higher animals.

I did NOT say all humans are equally empathetic or kind- simply that such qualities have nothing to do with religion and that a person who NEEDS religion to be moral is not moral at all.

And let's not forget that most of the worst atrocities in history have been carried out by those with a fierce devotion to their god.

Hahah what about Stalin and communist leaders
Wavecrest says2015-04-01T18:01:56.583
Yeah, you need to do some research into the bogus atheistic claims about religion and war. Seriously, please research this topic if you care about truth. If religion, and by extension God, is so bad, why is the most popular argument against it such a blatant falsehood?
Wavecrest says2015-04-01T18:14:31.467
Gallader20 is right. Non-religious leaders have killed more people in pursuit of their personal agendas than the 7% of all wars that were fought for purely religious reasons, according to The Encyclopaedia of War. A lot of the guys like , Stalin, Mao, Lenin were influence by atheism, Hitler had ties to the occult...

Human behaviour is the cause of most of the problems in the world, not just wars. From small personal, everyday issues to large scale international issues.
People serving their own agendas can be very dangerous if those people manage to have power and are able to command others in pursuit of those agenda.
