I believe that the Colorado shooting prove the need for more
gun control laws in America immediately.
This person should never have been allowed to purchase weapons. Also, I personally think that there should be
a nationwide federal ban on the purchase, sale, or possession of all assault
weapons as soon as possible.
Felons can't own guns. Now, it's time to consider those who are under psychiatric evaluation to be limited. Crazy people shouldn't be allowed to purchase weapons, period end of story. Everyone remembers Virginia Tech, Jared Lee Loughner and the Columbine shootings. People who are psychologically unstable should be disallowed from owning a gun. Unfortunately, many people go nuts after they already have a firearm.
I actually am for better gun control laws, but the Colorado shooting is not a good example for this need. The shooting is a much better indication that we need far better mental health laws to help our young people get better mentally. A lot of shootings have been linked to some type of mental issue.
Despite what the Obama Administration says, the Colorado shootings don't necessitate more gun control laws in this country. Better mental healthcare and stronger background checks might be necessary. However, further restrictions on a person's right to bare arms aren't necessary and would only further hurt the rights of American citizens.
The Colorado shooting does not prove the need for more gun control laws. This is because of the fact that regardless of gun control laws, things like the Colorado shooting will take place anyway due to the nature of mankind. These events will always occur from time to time, unfortunately.
The bottom line is, more gun control laws still will not stop horrific shootings, such as the Colorado one, from taking place. Anybody can gain access to a gun and they actually what they are doing and know how to use it. Increased gun control laws are not the answer.
The Colorado shooting was tragic as is all shootings, however it is like the saying goes "guns don't kill people, people kill people". If there is more gun control enacted that only takes the guns away from the people who deserve to have them and who use them properly. People who want to murder someone obviously will not care about the gun laws so they'll still have one. With gun laws, only the bad guys have guns.
Though the mainstream media and government would love it, what it really calls a need for is the need for EVERYONE to be able to defend themselves through arms if necessary. You would see gun violence and overall murder rates PLUMMET if everyone had the right to bear arms vs. it being restricted. Conversely, and this has already been proven in Australia, if you ban guns outright crime will skyrocket as the ones who want guns can still get them and will use them on a defenseless people. You want a safe society, let everyone own a gun, that's what this proves the need for.
Over the past few years there have been several mass killing incidents. In most of these situations had someone with a weapon been on the scene the loss of life would have been greatly reduced. In looking at statistics on these kinds of incidents if has become clear that depending on police or security personnel to stop the gunman results in more loss of life not less but when there is a person with a weapon on scene the loss of life is greatly reduced.
Many states that have put in harsh gun control suffer from more crime and murder rates. This is not the answer to the problem, restricting the access of guns only takes them out of the hands of the citizens, while criminals will still be able to obtain them easily. Carrying a firearm and concealed carrying is very important for society, as the police will always arrive to the crime scene after it has been committed.
