Election of judges: Do unelected judges lack the sufficient authority and legitimacy?

  • Yes, election of judges would be the best case scenario

The way that judges are currently appointed leaves them much wiggle room to commit misconduct in terms of their duty as long as they keep up appearances with those who appoint them. Having the judges fall under public scrutiny would make sure that those judges who are in power have the sufficient authority and legitimacy.

  • Elected results mean little

I wish it were as cut and dry as stating that unelected judges lack the sufficient authority and legitimacy but that simply is not true. Election results mean very little in regards to which person is the most qualified as people often do not know the person they are voting for. Elections are more about popularity and whom is able to sell themselves the best. Skill has very little to do with it.
