I believe that the Ontario education ministry and the catholic boards have a deal between having religious education as mandatory.

  • Religious education is legally not mandatory

In the education act of Ontario, it clearly states that religious education is not mandatory with the signature of the parent/guardian. But, it says on documents distributed by the school boards that religion is a mandatory course. I believe that this is because funding the religious courses allows schools to receive funding from the government.
