These people on the Right have no idea what their talking about.

If you think having all your freedoms you could ever want with limited security would be amazing, you should just stop talking and log off this site. Your gonna wake up with all your freedoms until some other country comes and takes you over. Now you have no freedom's and at the moment your enslaved or dead.

Here are a few more people who aparently have no idea what they are talking about.

"Any people that would give up liberty for a little temporary safety deserves neither liberty nor safety."-Benjamin Franklin

The Constitution is not an instrument for the government to restrain the people, it is an instrument for the people to restrain the government."-Patrick Henry

"We base all our experiments on the capacity of mankind for self-government."-James Madison

“America will never be destroyed from the outside. If we falter and lose our freedoms, it will be because we destroyed ourselves.” – Abraham Lincoln

Why are you attributing this to people on the right?
The irony is that if this question was asked while Bush was president you'd probably be in the "Yes" column and someone who is now in the "Yes" column would be in the No column saying "These people on the Left have no idea what their talking about."
Liberty is NOT a left-right issue.
The question is kind of vague. If it was more specific like "Is my freedom of privacy more important than the security of an airplane?" I would be in the No column. Sometimes people do talk about freedom v. Security saying it's against freedom when it's a small inconvenience. But I think at the heart of it, in deepest principle we should value freedom more. Imagine if you had all the security in the world but every single aspect of your life was regimented for you. Wouldn't life be meaningless? Would there be any point to it?

You are part of the problem in America. To restrain others because your fear overcomes your thought patterns is a tyrannical outcome befitting only a fascist or medieval nation, not one borne of the Enlightenment. Classical liberalism was the overriding view of our founders, and it was ultimately wise, considering Thomas Jefferson's prophetic quotes about people who leech off the government. And are you blind to the fact that if all weapons of war were legal in this country, then no foreign entity would dare invade us? Our freedom makes us strong. You cannot create a spirit of fear and expect a country to prosper. The USSR fell because it's people did not believe in it's basic tenets, it was a system that allowed for infinite cronyism and corruption, like ours seems to be turning into.

Whether you are a statist, liberal or neo-con, you compromise the very lifeblood of the American dream with your fear-mongering. It's time the only country ever founded on true freedom returns to the principles that would have guided it to lordship over the rest of the world BY EXAMPLE. We are mighty, and only those who believe in Americans and their ability to fight, innovate, bounce back, and oversee their own destinies will truly speak with a resonance that awakens a place inside that most people didn't know they had.

"No one lights a lamp and puts it in a place where it will be hidden, or under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, so that those who come in may see the light." Does the Statue of Liberty mean anything to you?

If you don't like it, move to Great Britain where a gun is only as close as the nearest police station. Http://www.Dailymail.Co.Uk/news/article-25671/Violent-crime-worse-Britain-US.Html

Have fun with your security.

What makes you think we don't want to protect the country? I do. It just means we want the freedom to chose how we live in this country. I want a strong military, a strong country. I don't want to be told what to what, when to sleep, or what I should purchase. I support our military.

Three of the people that are being quoted as being 'wrong' and 'stupid' were the president at various points in history. Maybe you should rethink your strategy.

If any of you have ever read "The Giver", you will see that a society that ensures complete group safety is by no means a utopia. Isn't that the whole point of a free market economy in the United States rather than a centralized economy?

Yes, it would be convenient to have a lot of freedom and limited securities, but don't these things go hand in hand? If we had limited securities, wouldn't we have to instate limited freedoms? If I had unlimited freedoms, and someone decided to pick up a weapon of mass destruction and wreak havoc, wouldn't you wish you had more security? The sides of security and liberty need to be completely balanced in order to have a well functioning and balanced society.

Usually it is the right that promotes security over freedom. Have you forgotten about Bush and the 'PATRIOT' Act?

Had forgotten I had already made a comment here.

Many on the right oppose the Patriot Act and consider Bush to be a RINO. We need laws against crime and a National Defense but not warrantless actions against citizens.
