Is Jesus Christ Superstar offensive? Does it deserve the amount of controversy it has?

  • This must be a satire.

This musical is just... So, so, wrong.

First of all, they try to create sexual tension between Jesus and Mary, and continually portray him as an angry, unreasonable person. It also portrays scantly clad women doing inappropriate dances for John Legend.

It also shows Judis as having zero respect for Jesus, and acts as if they were both angry people. It is straight out blasphemy.

  • Because it just isn't

Only a small minded buffoon would find this work of art offensive. You would literally have to be off your trolley and religiously delusional to consider this musical as offensive. To anyone who says yes, get your head checked and pray that it will all go away. An amazing show.

  • Not at all...

It is basically just showing Jesus's story from Judas Iscariot's perspective, it doesn't shed any bad light on Jesus or God, it's really just a recreation of it. He has the amount of respect he would have gotten then from his followers, and also from the audience. As someone who has seen the show, I know I walked out thinking of Jesus Christ positively.
