  • Character is eclectic

Education is NOT against character building or "thinking outside the box". Abstract reasoning, Problem-solving skills, Curiosity and creativity are the ultimate goals of contemporary education. These have been the goals for years. Low pay, Status and ease of entry has lead to the profession becoming populated with people who don't understand how these higher-level cognitive capabilities function and how to remodel and package them into understandable information. Being a "good" teacher requires the stripping of complex abstract theories and structures into less developed forms postured towards a students general belief. You're fostering the child's mental capabilities. Your facilitating cognitive development and critical thinking. Your setting up more dimensions for the student to align and identify with which is essentially your character.
However, These are very difficult to teach and are not readily quantifiable or testable with a standardised test. They can't be directly taught and require thematic, Deep understanding and perception. As the student develops these skills they gain the cognitive capability to derive information, Meaning and understanding from far more domains. They stop being one-dimensional and develop character. Is it against character building? No. Is it doing it? To some degree, Yes.

  • Standing Out Breeds Success

Modern education isn't perfect, but it prepares kids for the "real" world later on. School is competitive, but it also allows kids to find their niche. There are many clubs and organizations in big schools. Smaller schools still provide opportunities for kids to flourish with their academic prowess. Education builds character in many ways--some soak up the development while others just don't thrive in that environment.
