The question itself is pejorative. Not all disciplines meet the scientific standards of proofing. Philosophy and meditation are accepted by rational people but few consider either 'scientific'.
To dismiss a novel approach to humanism out of hand is simply arrogant, possibly closing the door to new discoveries. The very foundation of our current scientific thought is based upon heretical explorers such as DaVinci and Galileo.
The inescapable fact is that we don't know what we don't know. A few centuries from now (assuming that some form of civilization exists), scientists will look back on the 21st century as we view the 19th century. That is, hopelessly ignorant.
This entire question leads back to the question of, "What actually is science?". This is a question that has been debated for decades without any answer because this is really an objective question. The definition of noetic science is a multidisciplinary field that brings objective scientific tools and techniques together with subjective inner knowing to study the full range of human experiences. It could be considered.
People often conflate the two words of the term "noetic science" and mistakenly think it refers to a set of procedures that fall outside the realm of traditional science.
More accurately, "noetic science" uses standard, objective scientific procedures (e.G. Systematic observation, measurement, and experiment, replication, etc.) to study complex and subtle topics such as inner knowing, spiritual experiences, awe, inspiration, consciousness, and psi.
Noetic science acknowledges the experience of subjective "inner knowing" and both real and valuable (a stance not held in most traditional fields of science), and seeks to more accurately describe the nature, scope, and meaning of those experiences.
Noetic Science is the scientific study of intuition or inner knowing. It uses the scientific method: observation, forming hypotheses, testing those hypotheses under controlled conditions with an attempt to reduce error or bias, and evaluating whether the results support the hypothesis. Noetic Science is a science, just like neuroscience, or cancer science, or psychoneuroimmunology are sciences. It's a type of science that focuses on investigating intuition, inner knowing, gut feelings, hunches, wisdom, intentions, worldviews - all of those internal aspects of being that remain relatively unexplored scientifically.
See this description:
As long as the method is rigorous, then Noetic sciences is science. There is no limit to what science can study. As far as I have been able to see, the paper published by this group use standard scientific methods so this is science as it could be done in other fields.
Science is not generally considered to be a bunch of facts, but rather is the application of the scientific method to a particular question of interest. While some people might say a certain question sounds odd to them (such as "can people read each others' minds?) there is no reason that the scientific method cannot be applied to that question.
Professionally and classically trained and accredited scientists, following the same rigorous testing standards as any other scientific field. For those saying it isn't a science, what claims have they made without offering valid evidence to back said claim? You can employ the same scientific methods to anything and call it science, it's what you do with the results that makes or breaks your claims as scientific. Is it that you can't comprehend a world in which "fanciful" things like consciousness actually play a role in the material world? The placebo and nocebo effect are so strong that they have to be tested and accounted for for any pharmaceutical testing, and it's also been shown to effect surgical procedures And improve patients symptoms when no real surgery was done. We have the wave/partial duality of light, where you can prove that light is concentrated in photons, or you can prove its waveform nature, depending on the test apparatus you set up. There's quantum entanglement and non-locality of particles that show immediate interaction of a sort, regardless of distance of separation. Energy levels of particles than can be increased but only by set amounts, with no gradual transition; the particle basically "blinks " out and back into the physical world with a higher energy. And the huge problem of the standard model and quantum mechanics that can't seem to locate 95% of the matter and energy that makes up the universe, while calling it dark matter/energy,undetectable in the electromagnetic spectrum. The spectrum that all forms of known energy manifest through, and that can detect everything else in known existence. Giving that, I would say that noetics and other such fields, as long as adhered to the same standards as classical science, are well within the realm of what is possible, and may be what is necessary to fill the current gaps of "real" science.
Asking questions, preforming experiments.
The scientists of Noetics first form hypotheses through theoretical practices.
The IONs lab has a special "Cube" from which white noise and interfering electrical processes are blocked.
Within this "Cube" lab, the experiments are quite literally preformed.
Is it REALLY science?
Your toddler does science, more than you! ANY QUESTION, EXPERIMENT PROCESS IS BY DEFINITION SCIENCE.
(Passive aggressive smile :) )
It has been a really short time since the noetic science was born, it really proves the power of our minds to do better, maybe in not healing and all that stuff (Sh**), but to focus and achieve what we want. Also is really interesting the way they explain the religion.
Noetic science seems like a quasi religion, quasi science. It relies on a form of knowing that is in question itself and goes against the criteria for formal scientific knowledge. Scientific knowledge is testable and able to be confirmed in repeated tests, and Noetic science seems more a matter of belief.
Noetic Science is not Science by any definition of the term. Take a look into the Martial 'Arts' for a better answer to this. It should be called Noetic Art, because there are no proofs involved in it, only theory. Martial Arts are designed this way, because everyone has different thought processes. If Noetic was to be called a science, then show me where all the proof is that these things (soul, spirit, etc) actually exist. It isn't based on anything concrete, which makes it an Art.
