  • Yes it is

A rich white person will grow up in privilege just like a poor black person, and a poor white person will grow up with discrimination and hardship just like a poor black person. The old perameters for analyzing society based on "race" are out of date and need some serious revisions.

  • Social Classes Transcend Races

Social class is more important in determining a family's characteristics because socioeconomic levels better define what circles a family is part of. One cannot change ethnicity or ancestry. However, socioeconomic factors can change over a lifetime. Blacks, whites, Asians, Hispanics, Indians, Arabs, and Europeans all can be of a certain income status no matter what background from which they came.

  • It is important

Social class is more important than race ethnicity in determining a family's characteristics because it reflects the kind of lifestyle a family is leaving. Social class is also a representation of a family financial capability. Race or ethnicity can represent cultures but not the standards of living. So that's why is more important

  • Both Equally Important

Most of the people responding to this post are ignoring the realities and facts of life. People in America are still racist and there are still significant examples of institutionalized racism in housing, job market, and higher education system. While race-ethnicity should not be a deciding factor (or a factor, period) in an important life decision, it is often taken into consideration. While newer generations are considered more "open-minded" and racism is less of a problem than it used to be, it still exists. Social class is extremely important in how a family behaves and its practices, but race is also important because of the social impact it has on the family. If anything, both are equally important.
