The money involved in elections is a problem. Too much money is going in to elections that are really close, and while that does sway the voters, that obviously gives a leg up to the candidate with the most money and connections, which is unfair to the less advantaged candidate.
Excessive spending on elections has created an imbalance of power in the United States government and severely impacts elections in a negative way. First, because it is very expensive to run for election, public office has become a role reserved only for those rich. Second, the lack of caps on campaign donations allows large companies to spend a considerable amount of money to lobby a candidate for their own best interests rather than those of the voters.
