• It makes more sense than Bitcoin itself.

I'm not sure who is behind Bitcoin, but the idea that it might be the National Security Agency isn't too far-fetched. Not quite as far-fetched as creating actual money by having a farm of computers twiddle numbers all day long. I think China might suspect the NSA or similar is behind it due to the restrictions they slapped on the use of Bitcoin a few weeks back.

  • No they are not.

I believe that the USA government does not approve of bitcoin. It undermines the federal reserve and is used in many illegal activities. I believe that the NSA tracks people who are using bitcoins and what they are buying. Perhaps this is why the Silk Road secret website was taken down.

  • Most likely not, but they could be able to use it to their advantage.

While BitCoin is anonymous, it is still traceable. Since BitCoin works like a ledger, and keeps track of every transaction that a bit coin has been in, there is a lot of potential for the NSA to exploit this quality. If you really want the most protection from NSA prying, pay in cash.

  • The NSA and Bitcoin Are Not Linked

According to Wikipedia Bitcoin is a peer-to-peer payment system and digital currency introduced as open source software in 2009 by pseudonymous developer Satoshi Nakamoto. I do not believe the NSA or any part of the United States government is in any way affiliated with Bitcoin. Bitcoin is a concept most Americans aren't even aware of, much less understand.

  • Makes no sense

Chances are, the person who wrote the question here isn't even entirely sure what bitcoin is, and probably had never heard of the NSA before the recent leaks. There are a number of reasons that this could not be true, but the easiest response is that, even if it were true (its not), it wouldn't really matter - that's inherent in bitcoin.

  • No, it isn't

Bitcoin is an interesting concept that has snowballed into a completely ridiculous thing on the internet, and at the end of the day, that's all it is. It is not the savior of libertarians. It is not some conspiracy, nor is there one against it. It is nerd monopoly money, the end. The NSA has more important things to do.

  • The National Security Agency is not behind Bitcoin.

The National Security Agency is not behind Bitcoin. The National Security Agency is not backing this at all. The NSA is busy spying on everything and Bitcoin is the one that is trying to empower the people. I highly doubt that they would have anything to do with them or be providing a backing for them.

  • Why would the Fed's number one champion be behind the think tank to discredit it?

The NSA is the number one organization infiltrating the mainframe to see what everyone is doing, so what would the all seeing corporate entity want with something like bitcoin that EMPOWERS people? Bitcoin is open source but its also open ended information as all who participate have the same ledger. Just seems like the half thought out right trying to rationalize "leftist" politics and economics.
