Is Virginia violating the 1st amendment by putting a ban on swear words ?

Asked by: kokmagik
  • Yes they are and here is why.

So as the first amendment states "Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances." Now the even stranger thing about this is that you can get fined up to $250 for swearing. What happened to freedom of speech you might ask? Well to start it off you cannot say words that are "offensive" to others in public, where freedom of speech should not be silenced.
