Mandatory labeling of foods with trans fats: Should producers be required to label foods with trans fatty acids?

  • Yes they should be labeled.

Producers of food should be required to label foods that contain trans fatty acids. Producers already have to label ingredients, calories and many other things, so they should have to label for trans fatty acids as well. Trans fatty acids are terrible for you, and you have the right to know what foods contain them.

  • Trans fats pose a public health risk

The scientific community has been aware of the dangers posed by trans-fats for over three decades. These fats differ from naturally occurring saturated fats, such as butter, in their increased tendency to build up in arteries and cause other health problems. As cigarettes have warning labels due to their clear health risks, so too should trans-fats.
