Well, you can't compare the original series to the others. The original was on NBC and was designed to appeal to everyone. The others were designed to appeal to science fiction fans and was syndicated. They would never be able to compete with a network series on the 2 other mainstream channels, but they don't have to. The others are not spinoffs of the original, they are more like something that was made for the sci-fi channel.
