As I woman I know I would have more power without the vote A woman's ability to influence votes is greater when she herself does not have the vote. It's a lot of work to make a country work! And gender roles were a clear cut, no nonsense way to take a divide-and-conquer approach to building and maintaining and prosperous, functional, and beautiful society. The culture on which America was founded laid the foundation necessary to foster all the opportunities which motivate SO MANY people to want immigrate here today. Like it or not, this culture requires these unique gender roles and a domestic dynamic in which women take charge of that which is considered most sacred in said culture: home and family. Hard work is endured, wars fought, sacrifices made, to protect and nurture the home and family--and the woman was the closest influence and liaison of her family. Voting was a team effort and the man had incentive to vote in the best interests of the women in his life, because he knew that protecting them made life better for all. Women's suffrage created an us vs. Them dynamic between men and women and in expecting women to take on men's social roles, it didn't stop there! Once women dressed up, did their hair and put on make-up for themselves and the one man with whom they hoped to share a life-long marital bond, now women must dress-up for their bosses, random strangers with monetary authority over them. What baffles me is that some people think women are actually less oppressed this way!
