The Hunger Games It has always been The Hunger Games and it will forever be The Hunger Games, after reading the trilogy I can't bring myself to love any YA. I think Divergent is pretty typical to me. Tris' parents die right in the first book, so she doesn't have anything to fight for (Four doesn't count, he can protect himself, they protect each other), and after her parents' death, Tris is hurt but that's all. I mean, yeah we can just be sad but it's still too fast to me. The love story is WAY TOO typical, they met, Four helped Tris, and after 10 weeks, they fell in love. The way they express their love is typical, too. Begins with a mad kiss (which is SUPER common in YA). Katniss has Prim, though she dies third book, but at least Katniss has a reason to fight for throughout the story, and Prim's death is more meaningful to me than Tris' parents', because Prim dies in the important war, the game-changing war, Tris' parents die too fast and briefly, in the auxiliary war, it doesn't mean really much. About the love, I really love Peeta and Katniss ' love story. Yes I agree that love triangle is common, but I don't think it's the love triangle, not really, because Katniss never really loves Gale as an lover, just bestfriend. And Peeta and Katniss have a great love story to me. They met and Katniss didn't have a thing for Peeta, but together they live through many things, and when it's over, she realizes she loves him, not just after 10 weeks training. They express their love differently, they don't do that way-too-typical actions like mad love kiss or jump at each other. They express their love through thoughtful actions, just hug and smile and care. They're "softer". Besides, I think The Hunger Games characters are more realistic.
