Yes! PE should be a core subject I believe that PE should absolutely be a core subject. Children are not getting the amount of physical activity that they need. We have so many children who are overweight and or obese. Children are suffering from major medical problems due to being overweight. A few medical issues include type 2 diabetes, depression, and heart conditions. Children sit in the classroom all day. Many children go home after school and sit in front of the television or other electronic device all evening. Sometimes the only physical activity that children get comes from PE and recess. I work at a school and notice that some children really aren't even all that active at recess. PE holds them accountable. They have to do what the activity is to get a grade for the class. I believe children should have PE every day. Our students only have it for once a week. Well, kindergarten has it twice a week, but that is because they split up the time between music and PE. So, they end up going to PE for a total of 50 minutes a week. That isn't nearly enough time for anyone. We expect children to sit in class all day long and sit still. This is ridiculous. We can't even do that, so how can we expect children to? I believe that PE is just as important to children as the other core subjects. Not only does PE help the children mentally, but physically as well.
