We live in the 21st Century We no longer live in en era when modern nation states were forming combined with industrialization and political revolutions, that started in the late 18th century and lasted until mid to late 19th century. Those were the times when the US needed immigrants, because it was "building up" itself, just like any other developed nations, industry and new techniques were raging. And the people who immigrated to the United States that era, were mostly from Germany, Netherlands and Scandinavia. They were quickly assimilated into Anglo-American people, because they had the same physical appearance, believed that same god in the same form(Protestant), and had relatively very similar cultures. Only thing they needed to change, were their mother tongues. But nowadays, the immigrants are almost entirely from the Third World, such as India and Philippines, and it's not possible to melt them into the Americans, because of both racial and cultural reasons. Only thing they will bring, and currently bringing, are culture shock, ethnical issues, hostility(by both sides conservatives) and vice versa. They are already numerous, and one of the major problems of the today's America, and more of them will mean more problems. Just no, thanks.

Yes, but there are several issues leading to that One of it is, high ethnical diversity in major US cities, and especially the African-Americans and Latinos aren't known for being peaceful. Another issue is, poverty is a considerable problem among those non-white folks. And wealth oriented society, vice versa. But the rurals are pretty much same with Canada in terms of safety.
Also, the LA is not bad as it's used to be, and the Chicago crime is almost entirely limited to specific areas which an average Middle Class family guy Chicago resident would never have to visit. For the Detroit:Just nuke the place along with Baltimore. I'm serious, those places are worse than Middle East.

Of course not Anyone who is thinking otherwise either grew up in a nursing home, a military fort with a shelter against all kinds of warfare, or a society of genetically engineered, non-violent human beings. Violence and crime exists in every country, which some are really bad, but the US is too far away for playing to top. Yeah, major cities especially, makes it more likely for you to be a victim or crime than any other Western Country, but it doesn't mean that it's something common and usually happens. Just stop anti-American fanatism and think rationally.
