Schools limit students acess to the internet. I agree that schools should block inappropriate and offensive content such as pornographic material, but some things that the schools block are very unreasonable. They block informational websites, music, social media, gaming and even school appropriate images. WTF! Music helps most students concentrate on classwork or homework, but they've taken that opportunity away from us. They've blocked iHeartRadio, Pandora, Spotify, Jungle Vibe and many other musical websites. There are a couple of websites that are still acessible, but they're very glitcy and doesn't play music we want to listen to. Social media websites can be also be used for educational purposes. Students can talk to other students about classwork or homework. They are also learning social skills because they are interacting with many different people, which can help them later in their lives. The schools are cooping us up from being social, exploring and learning new things. We need information websites to do research on projects or papers. They've taken away a lot of the INFORMATIONAL websites. I bet that if someone did a project or paper on breast cancer, they wouldn't find anything on it because the schools have blocked them because the search has the word "breast" in it. YouTube is also blocked. I'm a visual learner so I will better understand the subject it if I see it visually. Youtube can also be used for educational purposes. Gaming websites are blocked. If we have freetime in class, we can play a school appropriate game on our iPads/laptops. Do they expect us to get our work done and then sit there and do nothing? The way the schools block websites are laughable. They are limiting our freedom on the internet.
