Rap has helped a generation that was ignored by society, to have a voice. They are rapping about their world, and their struggles. Rap doesn't effect people unless they allow it to. Saying rap is bad, or wrong is like blaming the gun company for a gun that used in a murder. What you do with your life is on you. Rap wasn't started to be a clean, and wholesome music. When you are born in the ghetto your life around you is drugs, guns, sex, and violence. Being born in an upper middle class you will never understand our struggle, or our way of life. You have to be born in the ghetto to fully understand that for some us selling drugs is the only way we know to make money. If you are deciding between selling drugs or letting your family and loved ones get evicted, and/or go hungry. Putting my life on the line (even if that means death, or in jail) that's what I'm going to do. Those rapper talk about a world most of you will never deal with, yet alone live it. So for you to sit up on your tower looking down on us, and act like we choose this life is bull shit. Rap has put music to the story of our lives in the ghetto, and how people have negativity looked towards us. If you lived my life, and what I have done/been through you wouldn't see rap as a negative influence on today's society.
