Current events are a vital part of American culture In my U. S. History class we learned that one of the main reasons why our founding fathers didn't want the American people to directly elect presidents (we have an electoral college) is because they didn't want the "common people" were uneducated, And that truth still stands today. Not every high school student will become a scientist, Yet a science course is required. Not every high school student will become a writer, Yet an English course is required. However, Eventually every high school student will become a voter, And if the only source that young voters coming straight out of high school have is from Buzzfeed articles and their parents' opinions, Not only is it detrimental to their future, But dangerous to an adult citizen's present. By providing a current events class to high school students, They may be more properly educated, For their resources would be coming from a more reliable and credible source. Thus, Future Americans would be better educated and perhaps less divisive and more open-minded.
