Isn't a proper punishment Doing one break or one hour isn't much of an inconvenience and doesn't make students think twice about their actions in the future if they're just going to get a one hour not-so-bad punishment.
At my school, if we're given a detention you're notified in advance, usually the day before, and the next day you'll spend about an hour writing lines in silence in the hall, or, if it's warm helping the caretakers outside. Not a huge inconvenience.
However, if you were made to go everyday for a week, I see pupils starting to think more about their actions. That's really cutting into their spare time!
