It is wrong to take advantage of those who cannot speak up. Animals cannot consent. I've seen arguments saying that they love running and are treated well but how can we know how an individual horse is feeling? They should be able to run when they want to, They shouldn't be forced and it shouldn't take up all their time and include strict training and diets.
If humans really must watch racing they should be other people because at least they can consent and choose their path in most cases.
Horse racing is for our own gain. It's for a day out in a fancy outfit to drink champagne and gamble. Gambling in any shape or form should not be advertised and encouraged. We even 'celebrate' such events like the Melbourne Cup with public holidays.
It's not all about us.
Yes, This also means that other industries such as animals being bred to be eaten are unethical but we can't tackle everything at once.
Australia holds the second largest number of races per year in the world, Second only to the U. S and allocate the third most prize money (in excess of 500 million) after the U. S and Japan. Considering just how tiny Australia's population is compared to these places, How gross is that?
Is there nothing better we could do with our time?
