Should 5th graders be able to take their chrome books home

  • Low risk, teaches responsibility, one laptop per child is enough

Growing up involves taking over responsibility for your own actions. The question asked here should rather be ‘from what age on should children be allowed to take home their chromebooks.’ While this is certainly a difficult question, I think 5th graders are old enough to take home their chromebooks because of three reasons:
First, chromebooks are relatively cheap and robust. Braking the chromebook is most likely less of a problem than loosing it/forgetting it would be. But this is a problem which can be tackled by joined efforts of teachers and parents. If it still gets lost, a replacement would be rather cheap.
Second, some 5th graders will start to have their own laptops at home. There is really no sense in having two laptops, simply because they are not allowed to take one of them home.
And third, it shows respect for the student and allows them to learn about responsible handling of valuables. Being allowed to carry your own laptop wherever you want shows appreciation and may make students feel valued. They will also learn about how being in charge is not always the easiest way to go.

My Argumentation is based on the assumption that we are not talking about students from a very poor social class. Schools in poor areas are usually less well funded and probably wouldn’t even have chromebooks in the first place. In other social classes we can rely on parents acting responsibly and regular communication between parents and teachers. Given this protected framework children grow up in, 5th grade is not too early to start being taught responsibility through taking home a chromebook. Therefore I say YES, 5th graders should be able to take their chromebooks home.

  • Low Risk, teaching responsibility and spending less in total

  • Too young, Can't handle responsibility

If 5th graders were able to take home their chrome books, it'd be too much of a responsibility, they might play games rather than research and study, also, schools might not be ale to fund enough chrome books if the 5th graders were to break it, therefore, 5th grader are too young and should not be able to bring their chrome books home.

  • No, because to young

As a 6th grader if 5th graders would to take there chrome books home, they would be all up in your face saying " We get to take are chrome books home." And we really don't care. I they take there chrome books home, they are not really that respell. NO
