An employer does not need a drug addicted employee in the office as the office environment may become unsafe. If the employees are allowed to come into the work environment under the influence of drugs, there are endless possibilities of accidents, injuries and also less productivity. On the other hand, a drug free environment carries good reputation and fairness and increase goodwill.
Workplace safety is often the main reason for employee drug testing. Organizations that require employees to operate machinery, drive, work with consumers or do manual labor often require drug testing for the safety of everyone involved. Pre-employment and random drug testing is administered to protect employees, as well as the general public to ensure consumers are confident that employees are working coherently.
On the other hand, many organizations advertise this to the public to gain trust and attract consumers to their products or services.
A drug addicted can not be a normal person like others. He may contaminate the work environment by his abnormal and odd activities. For this reason, the other workers may feel that their workplace is unsafe for them. So they can be demotivated as well. This causes loss to the company.
Employment drug testing is something that comes under fire a lot, but it is okay as long as the drugs being tested are actually dangerous ones that can indicate some kind of dependence in the applicant. Drug tests that detect marijuana obviously do not fall under this category, but cocaine, meth etc. certainly do.
I believe that employees should be drug tested. If you're going to work, you should be clean. Who wants employees who are on drugs, it makes them incompetent and unable to perform the way that they should. A drug test is quick and easy, only takes a few minutes of your time.
It is very important that our work places stay in order and have the least room for error as possible. If we were to allow employees to come into the work environment under the influence of drugs, there are endless possibilities of accidents, error, and injury. So, due to the mind state of people who are under the influence, It is imperative that we drug test our employees to ensure their safety, the consumers safety, and the safety of anyone who may come in contact with the said employee.
I think that they should be. It is illegal to do drugs and every employer has the right to know that his or her employee is doing some thing that could potentially hurt their organization. Drugs make people unreasonable and undependable and that is the last thing that an employer wants.
It was never about workplace safety. It’s about your greedy boss saving 15% on workman’s comp insurance. In other words sacrifice your privacy so others can get more rich. America is the only country that allows this much drug testing and in the land of the free that is unacceptable!
Minimum wage jobs like Denys and target require drug testing which is absurd. Its a dead end job. Its not some highly skilled corporate job. Regardless of the job its not even a brain type of job. I can understand when you are drug test for a job that pays a lot and you need your head clear in but they should really remove these policies from shifty jobs like the ones I mentioned. Ross and UPS do not require drug tests because they know where they are at level entry. There is no point to drug test someone for weed when you cant even drug test them for being alcoholics crack addicts or even heroin addicts that can really affect their mood in a job. Its really pathetic.
Then main argument for drug testing here is that workers that use drugs are less productive and inferior employees. However, if one can use drugs and not let it affect their job performance, businesses should not be concerned. Workers should be evaluated based on performance, not by the substances they may choose to use.
Weed never hurt nobody THC stays in your system wayyyyy too long and there's tons of alcoholics out there than can pass a drug test like nothing and they're far more of a risk to a company than someone who quit smoking weed a month ago... Trust me. I'm one of them (an alcoholic). Cheers!
What you do at home should not be used against you at work.If people on government assistance get to do all the drugs they want and tax payers have to foot the bill it's not right. Why don't they get random testing to make sure our money is not getting misused. We have rights that already say that this isn't right to violate use like this and then they want to watch you donate in the cup now that really isn't right. Now the want to test hair and gap your have or shave large amounts of hair off arm or leg really not right.
Drug testing an employee should be unlawful because when you invade somebody's privacy, the person can become uncomfortable and therefore effect the way he or she works. Its bull crap that one should go through the pressure about whether if he or she might get the job all because the workplace wants to get personal!

Someone who is an alcoholic can be still hungover yet pass sobriety. Someone who smoked weed last week will test positive . Someone who eats shrooms daily, drops acid (anything that isnt oil based) only needs a day or 2 and its out of their system. If someone is drunk on the job a breath kit will tell the tale. If they are a pot head, a simple coordination test will tell the tale. Current drug testing is completely pointless AND does not do what it is supposed to. Drugs people are on now like illegal scripts, meth, uppers, are not accounted for. Drug tests are only a witch hunt for people who smoke pot whether it be on the job, WHICH IS BAD but mostly those that do it recreation-ally or for med reasons are the ones that get screwed.
Disqualifying applicants for marijuana use is a good way to turn away perfectly good, productive workers. The stuff stays in your body for over 30 days in some cases, and the hair follicle tests detect an even longer time span than that. But you're only impaired for a few hours after smoking, and most jobs that test (like hospital janitors, any office jobs, etc) it shouldn't matter what you do on your off hours if you're straight when you show up. Why is it fine to go home and have a drink but not enjoy a toke on your day off? Are all people who smoke recreationally on the weekends drug addicts? Of course not.
Testing employees for illegal drugs is fine, but testing for marijuana is completely unnecessary . Reason being is that it's legal in some form in 23 states, another reason is the way you get tested. Having THC, the active chemical that gets you high, show up in your urine, dosn't prove that your high on the job because the test looks for metabolites that your body has already processed. That being said it takes your body at least 5 hours to START to metabolize THC and pass it out in your urine. We also know that
