GMO’s are More Efficient: GMO’s are genetically modified organisms. These seeds can be modified to use water more efficiently or better fight pests including weeds, bugs, and animals. This will require less work to grow and less farmland. This also promotes no till farming. This keeps moisture in the soil and also reduces the carbon used. Less fuel is needed to water the crops and it will keep more carbon in the ground.
It’s Not Like GMO’s Began Yesterday: Farmers have been modifying seed for about 20 years but even before that, it’s been going on for centuries, it’s just being advanced. Nothing has changed, really. Scientists are even modifying it today, trying to improve it so it can help fight crop diseases!
GM Food is Among the Most Tested Products: In the U.S., GMO food products are harshly tested before they can be sold. Testing includes things like nutritional analysis, protein analysis, and characterization. A study of more than 1,700 peer reviews found no evidence that GMO’s are the cause of claimed health issues: although some admit it might be possible, it’s not likely.

According to the The Food and Agricultural Organization of the United Nation, GMOs have let us grow more crops in less area, as well as an earlier output of crops than usual. This can increase the amount of profit farmers gain as well as less people in famine and poverty, and this could make us able to become a more powerful nation. The more food, the better (as long as you don't waste it).
Gmo can be used to help provide more food for a larger group of people. Despite popular belief, gmo does not keep the usa from starvation. However, it does help to create more food, which is a good thing #morefoodisbetter. Some people, however, can be sensitive to gmo, so not all farmers should use genetically modified crops
Yes yes because it can makes u healthier its cheaper its ,it has better flavor. More food to end hunger.

The top comment says something "mother nature knows whats best" (paraphrasing). I do not understand his logic. Take bananas, for example. A 'natural' banana is tiny, and contains seeds. Bananas you buy at the store is in no way "natural" organic or not.
I also saw one person say there has been no unbiased studies. This is outright not true, at all. There have been over thousands of independent peer reviewed studies showing they're safe.
I find the studies showing they're dangerous, very biased however. There was one study (do not remember the author the title of the study) where the author stated he had no conflict of interest, but when researched, he worked for an organic company. Really? No conflict of interest?
The bottom post, right next to me, says "GMO's are filled with chemicals". I have never heard of this, other than from activists and propagandists/fear mongers. When confronted about it, so far, everyone I talked to, didn't seem to know what they were talking about and heard it on a blog, or some other pseudoscience website, like naturalnews. An estimated 90% of all pesticides you ingest are the crops natural pesticide.
I would also ask him why he wouldn't want fish DNA for a perfect tomato. What risk does it pose? This claim is usually posted, and never explained. Humans share quite a bit of DNA with trees, and other plants.
GMOs are a heavily researched topic in science, and a majority of the studies show they are safe for humans. They have increased yields, increased farmer profits, cut food wastage, decrease pesticide use, in some cases are more nutritious (example: golden rice). There is no reason to assume they are dangerous. I do not see any reason to deny somebody food because the technology behind it is being misunderstood.
If we don't know what we're eating why would we buy it? Research shows that since they use antibiotics in Gmo foods to prevent diseases it also lowers the chance of antibiotics working for humans. Studies show that herbicides used in corn were found in the bloodstream of pregnant women and their babies. Herbicides are a toxin used to keep pests away from corn plants. It also kill larvae of monarch butterflies
Agriculture has benefited immensely from the use of genetic modification. Crops that once require the repeated use of highly toxic chemicals can now be grown with a limited amount of less toxic substances.
Genetic modification has also brought us a great many advances in medicine in the way of insulin production and treatment options for once untreatable diseases.
Recent scientific experiments concluded that GM PLANTS are harmless while others say the total opposite.
GM meat and dairy is a definite no-no and should be banned effective immediately (it has proven to cause problems). However, GM plans may be harmless and beneficial to the economy. There should be more research into this issue before we can draw a conclusion, but even IF GM plants are harmless, Monsanto is still one of the worst corporations in human history for other reasons.
Also, even if we cannot use GMOs for a food source, we can still use them for other things: Genetically modified flowers, such as the Blue Rose, will probably become increasingly popular. With GMOs, we can make plants that produce more of certain things, so we have to harvest less plants, to get what we need: Imagine if the cure to cancer was a little plant, but it was hard to grow, and only cured one person with each plant. We could genetically modify it to produce enough chemicals to cure a dozen people.
Watch the documentary called "Seeds of Death." GMO's are the main cause of cancer in the United States! There are so many side effects of GMO's that major corporations such as Monsato keeps hidden. GMO's are terrible for the environment and terrible for the cells in your own body ( explained further in the documentary )
The most grievous cost of GMOs is to the ecosystem. GMOs support unsustainable use of land, water and fertilizer resources. They support destruction of ecosystems, replaced by widening stretches of monoculture. They promote the use of pesticides, herbicides and antibiotics, which are harmful to the ecosystem both directly and indirectly. They are not only toxic, but they throw delicate ecological systems out of balance and select for resistant strains of their respective targets.
GMOs are (in my opinion) not inherently bad, and the power of GM technologies could be used for good applications, but given how little we collectively know about the effects of GMOs and how little our leaders care about long-term environmental effects in the face of short-term financial gain, the time is not yet ripe to use GMOs on a global scale.
GMO products are taking jobs away from people such as farmers. They are also not good because they aren't naturally grown. They are sprayed with chemicals to keep bugs and pests away. They are also not even the same food because they have genetics and DNA from other foods and they are a mix between other foods
GMO's are not feeding the world. Over 97% of GM corn goes into the ethanol division, and even less of the remaining 3% hits the store in cob form, rather, some kind of filler for processed food, which we all know isn't healthy. 3rd world countries don't eat the cotton the produce and, in fact, can't graze their animals in the fields anymore after harvest because they DIE after consuming the BT cotton.
In addition, the science on which this is based is BIASED science. ALL positive reviews that say Genetically Modified Organisms are safe to consume have a former Biotech and/or Big Ag rep on their board of members. Unbiased studies, most notably the Seralini studies, show incredible damage to the beings that consume these products. Health Canada 'trusts' the studies from Biotech and HAS NOT DONE THEIR OWN. The FDA and USDA never APPROVED these products. They released a letter absolving themselves of any liability should any damage occur and didn't say 'no' -- LOOK IT UP.
Above and beyond that, the chemicals that are sprayed on these crops are doing incredible, unprecedented and unhindered damage to the environment. People, we only have one planet. They have created super weeds, super bugs, antibiotic resistant strains of ecoli and botulism and have depleted the soil and our food of critical, life sustaining nutrients. The answer to the uncontrolled weeds that are now herbicide resistant? AGENT ORANGE. We can all agree Agent Orange doesn't belong ON people let alone in them, or has enough of the generation that witnessed the damage and high suicide rates of people who were sprayed with agent orange died off?
STOP blindly trusting the agencies and corporations whos very goal it is to make money. Open your eyes and do your OWN research and then research your research. Know where the studies and findings come from, whos on the board, what their history is and their correlation to the industry that's funding them.
In some states, forcing corn into fish violates several laws and angers animal rights activists and yet they do it every day for their round up ready corn and their frankenfish.
Using GMO food only presents health issues. Mother nature knows whats best, and altering what's been created can only do harm.
1. Thousands of sheep, buffalo, and goats in India died after grazing on Bt cotton plants.
2. Mice eating GM corn for the long term had fewer, and smaller, babies.
Is it worth it?
The American Academy of Environmental Medicine (AAEM) stated that "GM foods pose a serious health risk" and called for a moratorium on GM foods. Citing several animal studies, the AAEM concluded "there is more than a casual association between GM foods and adverse health effects" and that "GM foods pose a serious health risk in the areas of toxicology, allergy and immune function, reproductive health, and metabolic, physiologic and genetic health."
The GMO's are filled with chemicals and it just isn't natural to have chemicals entering our body all the time. Also some vegetables like tomatoes have fish DNA in them to keep them from shriveling or freezing. I don't know about you but I don't think it is worth eating fish DNA just to have a perfect tomato.
