• She definitely should be inducted

Aside from being one of the best selling artists of all time, breaking multiple chart records and having a one-of-a-kind voice, Mariah Carey is a pioneer in many ways. Firstly, she influenced a whole generation of singers when she burst onto the scene in 1990 with her first single "Vision Of Love"- the amount of mainstream singers of today who cite her as a major influence is staggering. Secondly, she pioneered the hip hop movement of the 90's with her collaboration with ODB on the remix of "Fantasy". She is widely credited for starting the pop singer/rapper collaberation, which is still highly relevant today, and for bringing Hip Hop more into the mainstream. Thirdly, she's also a much more versatile artist than people realise. She never shies away from incorporating other genres into her music such as R&B, Hip Hop, Gospel and even occasionally Latin, Jazz, Rock and Country. As a result this means that she's never really been straight-pop. She only really qualifies as pop due to her popularity and mainstream success. She's much more of an R&B singer if you had to categorise her. Lastly, she's an excellent songwriter and in the US she's actually the most successful female songwriter of all time having written a staggering 17 number one hits. Overall, whether you are a fan or not, it's quite frankly delusional to ignore her talent and impact on the music industry. The Rock and Roll hall of fame inducts many artists from many different genres so the fact that Mariah isn't a Rock artist is irrelevant.

  • Sure She Should

I think that Mariah Carey has had quite a career in the music industry that dates back decades now. I think she has more than earned her spot in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. So, I would have no issue with her being elected to be inducted into it.

  • Yes I agree

Even if you are not a Mariah Carey fan, you have to admit that she has had a huge impact on the music industry. She is one of the all time highest sellers of records. Her voice is incredible. Though we do not see it much these days, she was a huge talent.

  • Her Recordings Are definitively NOT Rock and Roll.

She's had a great run in pop and a great number of record sales and lengthy tours on the charts. However, all of that does not make anything she's recorded Rock and Roll. She's a fine artist in a pop or even R&B genre... For those who like every song to sound the same. It just ain't ROCK AND ROLL. It's that simple. Wish her peace...Maybe she can start a Pop Hall of Fame.

  • No, Mariah Carey should not be elected to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame

Mariah Carey should not be elected into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, because she is primarily a pop artist. In a nutshell, her music would not be considered rock, and therefore should not be inducted into the Hall of Fame. Her music style is pop with some R&B, which is not rock and roll.

  • She's Not Rock and Roll

If this were about a general Music Hall of Fame, that would be an entirely different story. The fact is, she's a pop singer, and she was only good in her prime. Madonna, Janet Jackson, and many others still put on concerts and they sound fantastic. Celine Dion does too and she talks a lot about maintaining your voice in your old age. Mariah was only good for a while and now she has lost it. Music hall of fame is a possibility for her past but she does not belong in the rock and roll hall of fame.
