  • It is modern torture

Solitary confinement can lead to insanity and hallucinations. Humans are social creatures and being alone to long can be detrimental to the brain. When it first started coming out, People even then ruled it too cruel to use. If even the people then who burned people because they were "witches" thought it was bad, Why should we have it? Watch the 'Adam Ruins Everything' on it. It says a lot about modern society.

  • It is cruel.

Solitary confinement is a punishment that when first used in America was by 1800s Quakers for short term use where the people put in a small room with a bible and hoped they would read it and self reflect. Then the supreme court at the time ruled that it was too cruel because the prisoners became insane, Violent, And suicidal. It went out of use for a while and then we brought it back. Now thousands of people are experiencing this cruel form of punishment. They are losing their minds and this needs to stop.

  • Solitary Confinement is a form of torture.

Prolonged isolation is a modern day form of torture. People are kept in isolation for months, And often years. In my state over 500 people have been held for decades without human contact except guards escorting them in chains, Untilthe prisoners went on hunger strike in 2011 to call attention to their plight. All the research shows that keeping human beings in such conditions causes mental deterioration and serves no positive purpose.

  • It is harmful.

Solitary confinement can cause schizophrenia, Paranoia, Hallucination, Claustrophobia, And violates basic human right. Solitary confinement can be defined as torture, Which the UN Convention against Torture defines as "Any act by which severe pain or suffering, Whether physical or mental, Is intentionally inflicted on a person for such purposes as obtaining from him, Or a third person, Information or a confession, Punishing him for an act he or a third person has committed or is suspected of having committed, Or intimidating or coercing him or a third person, Or for any reason based on discrimination of any kind. " Solitary confinement does nothing for rehabilitation, And is used against prisoners for minor offences, Or against people who guards don't want to deal with. Solitary confinement can be so mentally taxing that prisoners have been known to resort to self-destructive behaviors in order to leave.

  • It is a Necessity

If you make solitary confinement illegal there will be less deterrent to inmates. Solitary confinement is for those inmates that are a danger to other inmates. Some inmates are to dangerous to be around other people, And could cause harm. So solitary confinement is a good deterrent and a good way to keep inmates safe.

  • It protects prisoners.

Normally the only reason that someone is sent to solitary confinement would be for inciting a riot or something like that. If the police do not do anything about it then there would be more riots because there is not punishment for it. Solitary confinement protects against the dangerous prisoners.

  • Solitary confinement punishes effectively.

As social creatures, We crave human affection, Attention, And belonging. Depriving a criminal of these basic desires will adequately punish them for committing violent acts that have grave repercussions upon wider society. Antisocial and psychotic individuals need to be detained alone to reevaluate their ingrained behaviors. Additionally, Quarantining violent individuals will allow nonviolent or non-aggressive convicts to be rehabilitated. Solitary confinement serves as both a deterrent for future criminality and insubordination.

  • It is crucial

If we didn't in fact have solitary confinement there would be a lot more deaths in prisons, Especially in the toughest ones with the craziest people. We absolutely need it. Question: what if you're in prison, One of the worlds most fucked up people enters your cell, You don't wake up. That shouldn't happen hence we invented solitary confinement.

I 'think I would prefer solitary confinement. But, I've never been in prison before. Perhaps my expectation would not meet reality.
