Should students be able to take computers home if the computers are owned by the school?

  • Yes students need to be able to do their work.

When laptops are used in the classroom, much homework is given on them. Many students don't have a computer at home and therefor fall behind. It also helps because even if they do have a computer at home, many services used are only on that computer. It also gives students an academic advantage.

  • No we don't need to take our computers home and heres why

We don't want to pay for a new one if it breaks or spill something on it it is handy but we don't want yo go out of our money and buy a new computer when we could buy our own with that money and we can also put food on the table

  • Should be able to take home

I think kids that don't have a computer or some kind of electronic device at home then yeah they should be able to take the computer home if they are responsible enough to bring it back. All children or teens should have some kind of electronic device they can pick up to finish last minute homework assignments.

  • I think you should

I think that people should be able to take them home because teachers give students homework over the weekend so the teachers know that they are doing something. Also I feel like that the kids these ages sit and watch youtube videos I understand that but some kids dont do that. Also I have an opinion of kids should not be getting D's and F's on their homework and a reason why thats happening is because of the parents not helping their kids with homework.

  • I say yes

I say yes because some kids don't have computers and they should be able to take them home and if you do have a computer you don't need one. Some people have work and homework to do at home and they can turn them in early. That is why we should take computers home with us

  • Been there, done that, sending tech home does not work.

I am the computer guy at a middle school. We tried sending laptops home and it did not work out. First, most devices were hardly used for their intended purpose, if at all. In reviewing logs of returning systems, I found they were rarely used and when they were, it was hardly for educational purposes. Second, keeping up with damages was not as hard as getting parents to be responsible for charges. Third, and this is the biggest problem, sending technology home causes bigger gaps in the educational process instead of leveling the playing field. Not all parents will sign-off on their child having the technology and the responsibility that comes with it and some cannot afford the insurance so, not all of the students can take their devices home. This means the teacher cannot assign homework that requires the technology. If a student comes to school without their device, the entire lessson plan can be impacted which affects the class. We found that by keeping the devices in school, every student has technology available and teachers can plan accordingly. We have saved so much in this manner, we have been able to push laptops all the way down to our Kindergarten class, so every child in K-8 has their own laptop.

  • Students should not be allowed to take computers home if the computers are owned by the school.

Students should not be allowed to take computers home if the computers are owned by the school. I think more damage would occur by letting this happen. Loss and theft of the computers would happen and it would be more costly for the school to have to replace the ones that are lost.

  • No, school computers should stay at the school.

If tax dollars provide computers for students, then the computers should stay at the school to make sure that they're only used for educational purposes and stay in good condition. That being said, if students need to move homework from school to home, there are easy ways to do so now, with inexpensive thumb/flash drives that can transfer documents between two computers.

  • Keep the school property at the school.

There have been many such programs over the years, and they've met with varying degrees of success. What most schools don't seem to realize is that giving a kid a delicate piece of complicated electronic machinery will drastically reduce its lifespan. Kids are careless. Computers are expensive. Best to have the parents shoulder that expense instead of all the taxpayers.

  • Not Cost Effective

I do not believe students should be able to take computers home, if they are owned by the schools. As a parent, I don't want the school sending computers home, because I don't want to be responsible for it, if it breaks or comes up missing. I believe it would be a bad idea to do this, as there's no guarantee that they will be returned.
