Should textbooks be replaced with notebook computers?

  • There is no doubt that computers are powerful tools.

After all we use computers every day. They help us to communicate with friend and family, to organize our lives and to find new information. But the real question is how well students learn when they use computers.
Computers help us access to the latest information, because of the internet. Computer lesson are updated to the latest information. This means that new information can be added to as soon as it happens. Thanks to this computers have more accurate and updated information.

  • Textbooks NO! Notebooks YES!

    1. No wasting trees
    2. No drawing several things on the pages
    3. Not an easy thing to damage (can't rip out pages)
    4. Most teenagers prefer technology now a days
    5. Will build up their responsibilities

The society has moved on from paper into technology so let's follow it!

  • Textbooks should be replaced

Students textbooks by notebook computers because they are lighter then most textbooks and the computers are becoming lighter almost down to 3 pounds. Research is also limitless, on a textbook you can't find much. And with textbooks they could be outdated. * Drops the mic* Thank you for reading this debate

  • Yes, textbooks should be replaced with notebook computers.

Students having tablets instead of textbooks allows the students to become more responsible and revolutionizes the school's main technology source or sources. If the students keep using textbooks, like all kids, become mischievous. Kids will draw and write excess things that are not needed. If the students have textbooks there is a far more likely chance, almost impossible to be ruined. The technology is far to advanced for any kid I know. And you can't draw on them because they re glass and plastic and if they do draw on them, it won't go long without someone noticing. Plus, most kids won't do anything to the computers because they know that it is better than textbooks and will wan,t to keep them. Replacing textbooks with notebook computers I think is a phenomenal idea.

  • Computers should replace textbooks

The simple fact of this argument is our technology have evolved. We need to evolve with technology and use it in everyday life. Computers are an everyday item for most children in modern England and most people know how to use one. They would stop us from carrying around extra equipment which would be un-needed if we upgraded to notebooks.

  • Textbooks could have false info.

A textbook could be out of date. That does not mean the person who wrote it is wrong, it just means that info that used to be right is now wrong. Computers may not always be correct ether, but if you search for another website and it says the same thing, it is correct. If they say different things, one of them is wrong and you can just look at another website.

  • I speak from experience

First of all for clarification, when I say "computer" I mean any type of computer device, like a desktop, laptop, or iPad, etc.
Our school system where I used to live started with iPads for students, but after one trial year, many problems arose (I'm not quite sure what these were) which caused them to discontinue it. The next year, they implemented a plan where every student got Mac Book Airs. However, even so there are still MANY problems with the whole computer/screen thing. Once you give computers, they are used for a lot more than just reading, or it would just be a waste, and there are too many problems that will come from it.

1. I'm sure that high school students and college students would be a little bit better, but originally it started in middle schools - that kids were constantly loosing their laptops, and sometimes they were never found, costing money. Many kids were simply not responsible enough. Damaging a textbook is much better cost-wise than damaging a computer, which is almost just as easily broken.

2. With the taking notes situation:
Yes, some kids find it much easier to type instead of writing, and for some kids it is easier to organize, but there are many reasons which say that writing is much better
a. You remember the information much better when you physically write it down, according to scientific studies. Please read this article for an example: (http://www.Boston.Com/health/2014/06/05/take-note-this-handwritten-notes-are-more-effective-than-typed-ones/Ypp4ahKuX2Zd0OtUqBw79H/story.Html)
b. Handwriting is a skill every student should have anyway. Although the computer can write neatly for you, for many tasks you must still use it. Forget your laptop/iPad one day? Your handwriting should be legible. Somewhere else, other than school, someone says something important, and you want to write a note to yourself, you have to be able to read it. Or if you want to write a note to someone else, they have to be able to read it. Also the fine motor control gained from handwriting is often necessary in everyday tasks. Just like you do pushups to strengthen your arm muscles, handwriting strengthens and improves accuracy of the fine motor skills in your hands.
C. Our teacher actually has one person each class that takes class notes on a computer for those who are sick. - not everyone has to have a computer.
D. People need to be able to organize without the computer doing it for you. ORGANIZATION = SKILL that we cannot learn by pressing a couple keys on the computer. Yes, it is neater and you can bold things, but actively highlighting and underlining not only improves your abilities to pick out important information but helps you to remember what you picked out to be important. Emphasized points will be emphasized in your mind, not only saving time when you study for tests, but allowing you to learn those points for an extended period of time, -studies have shown. • Computers make eyes blurry and give headaches

It is a scientifically stated fact that staring at a computer screen gives you headaches. When you get into night school you barely do anything else than look at textbook so if we replaced it with computers....We would be constantly have headaches and are eye sight would be going away!

  • Textbooks make people feel good

When reading paper-books and smell the smell of the books, it feels good. Personally speaking, it is a kind of culture which can let students know what they are doing and their identification. Maybe computers are much more convenient, but reading paper-books is not only a kind of sentiment, but also a way to mind us.

  • Mankind are believed to use paper awhile technology uprises..

Throughtout my whole school life, I believe computers should not replace textbooks. Students would become distracted in their learning due to the impact of social media, games, etc. Students are better off learning on paper and memorizing certain elements and principles in the subject. Some resources on the computer are unreliable at most (misleading).

  • Tablets Diver Attention

Tablets will divert our attention. Students may brows to other illegal sites during study hours or when teacher will busy in teaching students can play games and indulge themselves in other activities using internet facility . Proxy breaking is not an issue for current students they can access all blocked sites .

  • No! Textbooks are also necessary.

Computers provide a lot of information, but then, unlike textbooks, they don't always provide the kind of in-depth information that's really necessary for learning. Computers can only go so far, and it can be very difficult to know what or what not to believe, when receiving information on the internet.

  • Separation from God

You see, when children get on their devices it's like their blocking the world out...They're even staying away from God. It starts to deteriorate their relationship with him, and Satan comes and interferes. It's like when they stay on their tablets or electronic devices It' almost like their trapped in another world!
