A text message is a text message so what if its your best friend or boyfriend that person can wait what a couple minutes. Just think is a text message worth almost killing someone. Responding to a text and driving has so many risks. Many people die every day don't make it more that.
How could some be so ignorant to look down at their phone to answer a text, it's putting everybody else on the road in danger because of the level of concentration that it takes. Allof you over in the no section probably text and drive on a daily basis and don't want to hide your phone while your driving.
People that are arguing that it shouldn't be illegal obviously aren't aware of the hazardous things in this world! Texting is the most recently cause of human death. People are careless and don't pay attention to the road in front of them and are paying more attention to a worthless text message. Put your needs before your wants people!
Texting while driving is causing 10 times more accidents that drunk driving. I am not condoning drunk driving, but at least a drunk driver is TRYING to drive, while the texting driver could care less. The penalties for texting while driving should be as severe as drunk driving, and the convicted person should have to go without a phone for at least a year. It is very easy for a law enforcement officer to determine if a driver has been texting simply by performing a phone records check from the computer in his car. This will quickly tell if the suspect driver had sent or received a text within any period of time up to the accident or after being pulled over.
Texting while driving is the #1 cause of teen deaths, 3,328 people died in 2012 while texting and driving and no text is more important than a life. And even if your texting your friend, mom ,dad , brother or grandma, no text is more important than your or someone else's life.
It kills many people yearly. 9 people every day die because of texting drivers. According to research, teens have a reaction time of a 70 year old when driving or in a car crash. In 2012, 3,328 people were killed in a texting and driving accident. We need this to STOP.
Texting and driving can be a very dangerous act. It can potentially kill many innocent victims by being involved in a fatal motor vehicle accident. Tests have shown that texting and driving can be more dangerous then driving while under the influence of alcohol and drugs. This is why it needs to be illegal.
We were learning about distraction while driving and my classmate even had concussion because her mother was texting and not paying attention to the road. The most important thing is, while in the car, to look where you are going, not to text someone when you can do that anytime.
Texting and driving is crazy and it causes death and injury. Sometimes I think that other people should think before they do crazy things like texting and talking while driving. If people would think things through before they did them a lot of innocent lives would be saved. So please think before you act.
Do you think that you should be focusing on anything other than the road while driving? I believe texting while driving should be illegal. According to U.S government website for distracted driving, the year 2010 registered a total of 3,000 deaths as a result of crashes due to distracted driving. Texting/cell phone use has emerged to be the greatest cause of road accidents.
Texting while driving should be illegal because not only does it take your eyes and hands away from what you should be doing, it also mentally distracts you from paying attention to the road. You are not only putting yourself at risk, you're putting other innocent people at risk. The incidents of accidents resulting from texting and driving are increasing daily, and need to be stopped.
Text messaging has grown to become very popular to many teens and even adults, in the past few years. It can be very useful, but it can also be very distracting when driving. If you text while driving, you lose your concentration and increase the risk of injury to yourself and to others.Text messaging requires visual, manual, and cognitive distractions from the driver, it is by far the most alarming distraction. Text messaging while driving should be illegal, because it increases the risk for accidents and it isn't even needed. If you must contact someone while driving, at least call the person on speakerphone.
Sending texts while driving is very dangerous. Why would you want to risk your life just to send a text? Texting while driving should be illegal. Not only does it put yourself in danger it puts other people around you in danger. Texting while driving a car makes you 23X more likely to crash. That is why texting while driving needs to be stopped.
Texting and driving is dangerous, but if you ban texting and driving, you must also ban all other distractions behind the wheel. Plus, if a cop pulled you over, how could he prove that you were texting and driving. Texting makes up 23 percent of distracted driving accidents. But, lets not forget about the other 77 percent. Why arent we complaining about that. If you ban texting and driving, you must ban screaming children, food and drink, and all other distractions.
Think about it. Don't you think the policeman have more important things to do then to catch people tenting and crossing the street. What if there is a robbery and a policeman is giving someone a ticket for texting while walking across the street. Who would stop the robber? No one
I don’t think we do, anymore than we need greater gun regulation because of the increasing number of deaths and injuries caused by guns. Cellphone usage should be viewed in the same way. Yes, it may cause reckless driving, so let it be penalized as such. Laws do not fix societal issues, but increased awareness, community and individual effort.
Hypothetically speaking: You are driving to work when you get a call from your mother, your brother (sister, cat, dog, whatever), just got hit by a car! So you rush home calling your dad to tell him. Then when you get home your mom is heart broken but you and your dad are there so she is comforted.
None of that would have happened if you weren't allowed to use your phone while driving. And this is a very real situation. You would have gone to work clueless, along with your dad and what would the situation be when you get home? Awful. All because your mother couldn't call you right then.

If you think of the ban on alcohol, it didn't help, it just made people want to make and drink alcohol even more. If we ban it people will hide it and get themselves into more trouble because they will be looking even further down at the screen ad less at the road trying mot to get caught.
Let me start off by saying that I think texting and driving should be a person's choice. Have you ever seen someone or heard of someone being pulled over because of texting and driving. I haven't and that's why I think it is dumb that it is a law. My dad texts and drives every single day and is calling people all the time in the car and not once gotten pulled over or had an accident from being on his phone. I feel like it's a waste of time for a cop to pull you over just because you were on your phone.
I don't think that the government should tell people to not text and drive. The citizens should be able to decide if they want to or not. It's their fault if they crash or get hurt in any way. Most of the accidents are from adults anyways. Teenagers don't usually get in accidents from texting and driving because they are to scared to even pick up a phone and to be driving on the road.
There are commercials that tell people to quit smoking and people do it anyways. That is the same with texting and driving. The law says not to text and drive and people still do it. There is a law for many things that are laws and people break them anyway. This law is very useless and shouldn't be a thing anymore. There is more important things for the cops to be worried about. The same thing goes with alcohol because the drinking age is 21 but people still drink when they are underage. Injury rates have increased on people under the age of 21 according to tests that scientists have done. It damages the mind and makes you do dumb things. People under the age of 21 are more prone to binge drinking than texting and driving.
If you think of the ban on alcohol, It didn't help, It just made people want to make and drink alcohol even more. It is the same thing with drugs. People do drugs and that is a more important topic than texting and driving. I have seen day after day people doing illegal drugs and haven't gotten caught. If we ban it people will hide it and get themselves into more trouble because they will be looking even further down at the screen and less at the road trying not to get caught.
You cannot prove they were texting and driving. They can hide the phone under their seat or even throw it out the window. Why aren't we complaining about that.
What about the use of GPS. It is way more convenient and efficient to use Google Maps. How are we going to ban texting if it can't even be proven half the time? Is it okay to text and drive? Absolutely not, but that doesn't mean that it should be illegal just because there are stupid people. Of course there will always be idiots.
