  • YES ban it!

The n-word is the only remaining embodiment of the terrible past of segregation and slavery the African American people endured. If we can stop acknowledging that past and move on from the bad memories of it, then we can advance ourselves as a nation. I believe that we need to remember the consequences of slavery, but not the identities placed on the slaves themselves.

  • Leaning towards yes?

The question I must ask first however is what do you mean when you say banned? Treated like the F word or treated as though it is worse and what would be the repercussions of using the word? Fine or jail time? If that's the case then no it shouldn't be "banned" since that goes against freedom of speech but if your talking about how the F word is treated (not allowed to be said on broadcast TV or movies of certain ratings, Not allowed on broadcast radio, Getting in trouble at school, Possibly losing your job if slip up) then yes. IMO the word shouldn't be used AT ALL because the Black community asks as much due to how much power that community feels that that word has but honestly I don't get what you mean by banned or how one can' ban' a word other than what I suggested above.

  • Its very rude

The word was created to be a disrespectful worn towards ''colored'' people. Even though it is now the 21st century that word is still rude today. Some black people don't even feel comfortable saying that rude word. This word should be stopped and never used or seen ever again not even in history books or books at all

  • It's a double standard

Why should black people be able to say it and it be fine but if a white person says it he gets in trouble, even if it's being used in a non offensive way such as singing along to a song. The word is a huge double standard which needs to be dealt with.

  • Yes the N-word should be banned

Well....I understand we have the freedom of speech and all but using this word is a severe problem. This word offends many and reminds everyone of the dread full past. There is a new age of light ahead of us. We have so many problems. We might as well solve the little ones and work our way to the bigger ones. This new age of technology should be shared in joy and happiness. The racism needs to end. We are all equal. We are all humans.

  • Speaking Racists Causes Bigger Problems

It's always inappropriate and wrong to call other people according to race, to be called something that is racists and offends them, which can lead to big violent fights. We need to learn to be more respectful towards people, no matter what race they may be. And pray that our saying and actions does not get passed on to our kids of the generations. And we can agree that no one likes to be offended when it comes to our race. We all hate to be called by another name that hasn't been used in decades to start again. Before we know it, it will go out of hand and it'll lead to much bigger fights that could go without end. This is the reason why we need more peace in and out of America, and less to no more violence. Violence will never solve our problems, it just destroys, kills, and makes matters much worse than before.

  • Why use it at all????

The n word should definitely be banned. It should not just be categorized for some a particular race. If this word is really offensive, why do blacks use it among themselves. On the media, you see black people using the n word anyhow but once it is used by people of another race, it becomes disturbing. To end this problem about this "n word", the word used be removed entirely and NOONE should be allowed to use it. This would prevent future generations from using this word while ignorant and unintentionally offending someone. The word is racist for sure but that doesn't mean a race can use it and another can't. When a word is bad, it should be bad for all

  • Yes the "N" should be banned. Is there anything positive about this word?

I think not. The only word similar to the "N" that could be used if you're speaking Spanish is Negro (which only to be used to express a color) basically meaning black in Spanish. Which now has transcend in a derogatory and disrespectful manner. Some how people have accepted this as ok. Which it's not. One has to ask themselves. Why? What good reason does anyone say the word for . There is none. People say freedom of speech. That people is a cop-out. The "N" is a dirty word and that goes for all other racial slurs. Which brings to the point , that no other racial term is under fire like "N". No one goes around in regular everyday conversation or in music (hip-hop/rap is hardly music) speaking of Mexicans and Caucasian in offensive racial slurs. There's a double standard that been accepted. In addition you also have belief of N**ga and N***er have different meaning. Wow! That in itself is violation. Ask a wise older person or rather mature adult about the "N" word, most know, or have experienced racial turmoil, or have been racist themselves use of the "N" word wrong and needs to be banned so that part of history can forever be history respect your ancestors and there struggle. Stupidity is a chose not a lifestyle.

  • Yes the "N" should be outlawed. Has anything positive came from using the "N" word?

I think not. The only word similar to the "N" that could be used if you're speaking Spanish is Negro (which only to be used to express a color) basically meaning black in Spanish. • Do not ban it

Policing language infringes of people's free speech. Banning words give them more power. Censorship and political correctness have been ruining things like comedy and other forms of entertainment for years. The use of the N word should not be encouraged, But making it illegal is unreasonable and a waste of time.

  • The past is the past

Yes even though the word is demeaning and intended to cause harm toward another, it is still a word. We are the ones who give the word enough power to make is a derogatory. Even if we do ban the word, it is not like that word will not exist, it will still be used in pop culture and historical setting. In stead of being afraid of the word, we should use it as a lesson and reflect upon it so that we can grow from our past

  • You can't ban a word, BUT...

I believe that you can't ban a word, BUT then-word has no business what so ever being used as a term to describe a black person. The word was introduced as an adjective to describe slaves by their slave owners. It is INCREDIBLY offensive and shouldn't be used, but you can't ban a word

  • Freedom of speech

We deserve our freedom of speech, and there is no way the government could control it. For example, lets say i hate the guy sitting next to me and i go up to a cop and say that the guy said the n-word. There is no way to prove if the guy actually said it or not, so banning the word would be next to impossible.

  • Gives it power

People are so afraid of the Nword saying its offensive and hurtful. They expect to take away its power and meaning by banning it. However, doing so would be counterintuitive. By banning the word, you are giving it the power and attention that you are so desperately trying to remove.

  • People sure are scared

People so scared to be offensive, even here on the internet that they still type ''n-word'' it's NIGGER, not that difficult of a word to type.

It doesn't seem usefull to ban the word nigger, I mean what's the point, if anything it's helpfull that people keep using the word nigger in a good way that way it will lose it's purpose of being offensive

  • The first amendment

The First Amendment (Amendment I) to the United States Constitution prohibits the making of any law respecting an establishment of religion, ensuring that there is no prohibition on the free exercise of religion, abridging the freedom of speech, infringing on the freedom of the press, interfering with the right to peaceably assemble, or prohibiting the petitioning for a governmental redress of grievances. It was adopted on December 15, 1791, as one of the ten amendments that constitute the Bill of Rights

  • Who bans a WORD

    Really banning a word . . . . .. . . ............................................................................................................................................................................
    . . .. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .Really. . . . . . . . . . . .Really

  • While I think the word is awful, you can't ban it.

The 'n-word' is an awful word that is linked to a history of violence and cruelty. But no word can be banned. In the United States, people are allowed to speak their minds, and they have the right to their own opinions. While some people's beliefs are awful and sometimes seem very wrong, they have the right to say whatever they want, no matter how terrible. So I think that no word can be banned, no matter how terrible. But I also think that people should be more respectful by not throwing a word like this around. This word is offensive to millions of people, and while it cannot be banned, people really have no reason to use the word.
