We should be very worried about the honey bees dying off because of hive collapse. The leading culprit appears to be a fungal infection. Without honey bees, fruit and vegetable crops won't be pollinated as easily. This will cause a rise in food prices due to a lower harvest of product.

  • The Bee Cycle

The honey bee population has dropped dramatically in the past without any clear cause in the United States in the 1880s, the 1920s, 1960s and 1990s. They seem to have recovered each time in the past.
While it is a shame to lose honey bees, we must remember that butterflies, birds, flies and other insects all participate in the pollination process of plants. It is not just the bees.
