    Both, Christian and non-Christian contemporary sources of the era had confirmed persecution of Christians had taken place under the Roman Empire. During the Roman Empire, The Emperor was expected to be worshipped as a god. Since Christians were monotheistic, They would not do this. So, Christianity was outlawed, And anybody caught practicing the religion, Would be arrested, Tortured, Unless they renounced Christ, And and subsequently martyred.
